I have wanted to try this one for a really long time, for a few reasons: one - its from Russian River, and two - its a sour ale aged in red wine barrels. Plus the added bonus of some cherries! Pours a dark brown color with a thick yellow head that disappears as quickly as it forms. The smell is sour cherries, some red wine notes, but mostly it smells like you chopped open an oak tree and smell into the middle of it. Fantastic smell. Taste is full of sour and oak notes, with a little bit of cherries but mostly it is dominated by the pinot barrel flavor. Very light and easy to drink, this is really good stuff. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2006 Hazy orangey brown with lots of head. Some nice caramelized malt aromas, with something funky, barn like brett and cherries. Flavour was much similar to a flemish sour ale, as there is cherry and acidic sourness. jfm (1695), Holbęk, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Bottle, batch 003, about a year after bottling. Pours orange with an off white head. Tart fruity aroma with rhubarb, cherry and a touch of brett. An initial fruity tartness gives way to oak, brett, and must, followed by a dry bretty finish. Pretty good, but maybe would be better with another year or so of aging. sloth (1677), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

Lightly hazy orange color starting to turn brown. Lightly fruity nose, pears, vinous and wood with faint oxydation. Body is medium, soft carbonation, lightly acidic and puckering. Smooth wood and fruit flavors, tartness is subdued, cherry notes, spicey, lightly vinegery, musty and funky. Tart, funky fruity finish. Surprise, surprise, nice. Pour is hazy orange-ruby with a quickly fading off white head. Aroma of flowers, cherry fruitiness and cotton candy sweetness. Taste is big sour black cherry fruit, woodiness is present throughout. Super great acidity and bight sourness. Everything is perfectly smooth and in balance. This was one helluva beer. Right up there with Castleton as the best Sour I have tried to date.
