thanks to enniskillen for the hookup.poured a murky orange with a small white head.aroma was tart cherries and wine.im impressed with how the oak aging blends in with the tartness.tasty stuff.(BATCH 003 RATED ON 4-22-08).cloudy orange with a nice white head that leaves thick webbing on the glass.i pick up seltzer water, cherries, funk, and sourness in the aroma.flavor is dominated by brett.i also pick up some metal, cherries, and lemons.its good but i cant pick up much of the barrel aging in this batch.the funk overpowers it for sure.

WOW! What an unbelievable brew. Tart, sour, cherries, vanilla....just an INCREDIBLE brew. Quite possibly one of the best I’ve had. The sours just make this one unbelievable. When I will get my hands on this again, who knows but I know that this has changed my thoughts on how beers can taste.

I hope I did not keep this bottle in the cellar too long as the sourness was almost overpowering, and there was no head at all. It poured a rich mahogany with a nose of fruit and sour cherry. Mouthfeel had some bite. This might not be for everyone because my brother took one sip and poured his share into my glass. I believe this is supposed to taste the way it does and is a good example of its type, but overall it was not the blockbuster brew I was expecting. Next time I am in Santa Rosa if they have this on tap I will have to compare it to the bottle I just drank. I almost hate to post this review because I want to give this beer its just due, and mine is not up to the raves from everyone else.

2nd batch thanks to the Great Utah tasting. Pours a light orange/red with a decent thin head. The aroma is so unique; sour cherries, aged wine, and some sweet hints of fruit and malts. The taste does not let you down; a really rich sourness that dances in your mouth, a nice acidic/ alcohol burn that really adds a ton. The flavor is mostly sour cherries up front, but later leads to a yeasty flavor also with some oak barrel and sweet rich malts. High marks for uniqueness. Great!

Batch 2 - bottle from Capone’s. Pretty reddish color with a nice off-white fizzy head. Sour aroma with some winey-grape, wood, apple, cherry, and pleasant funk. Taste is pleasantly sour with lots of sour fruit - cherry, apple, lemon. A nice amount of woody/oak/wine in there. Ol’ Brett really shines in this one. Really nice feel on the tongue, though it fell just a notch below the dancing feel of Cuvee de Castleton - My only regret is that I hadn’t had the Captain Lawrence brew so recently as this one deserves to stand on its own as an outstanding brew. Its pretty brilliant. And to think I’m just getting into the world of wild ales.......... Rerate of a 002 in June 08 - still great, but that woody nose is even better. What a beer!

(Bottle) Pours hazy amber with a sand colored head that holds some red hints. The aroma is lovely lemon citric dryish with bretty tones of horse blanket and barnyard. Cherries and hints of other tart red berries. The subtle oak and tiny vinous notes make the already complex nose more balanced. The dry toasted malt is almost cracker like. The flavour is heavily dry, tart and acidic with tones of lemon acid. Brett and malt brings notes of horse blanket, barnyard, toast, crackers and maybe some dry caramel. Some cherries in the flavour as well. Light vinous fruity. The mouthfeel is a bit round and medium carbonated. Lingering citric and woody tones. Medium bodied.

Bottle courtesy of BuckNaked. Re-rate courtesy of moejuck as an extra!! Pours hazy muddy orange, with off white film that fades to ring of bubbles. Aroma hits you right off the bat, can smell this at arms length. Tart lacto aroma with alot of oak woodiness, faint cherry in the background. Wood tannins and cherry up front, fade to tart brett/lacto kick. Wood character gives a dry finish. Unlike most flemish sours, this has almost no acidity. Very well balanced. Mouthfeel very soft, slighty oily. Well done!! Thanks for the re-rate Joe!!

Had at Logan’s Oceanside beer tasting with AlohaC, and Hair, and Matt, and Ken, Jeff, Colleen, Bill, and others. A real pleasure to try this gem. I’ve been very eager to get a hold of a bottle. I’ve seen it at two other tastings, but didn’t get to try it for one reason or another. Very small sample. Great, great sour cherry aroma. Sourness is mild. Light red color. Tempted to bring my rating up, but 4.5 is pretty high.
