Aroma is earthy, with some vinegar and surely the cherries. The Pinot Noir came out in the flavor, and really enhanced the raisin and prune aspects of the brown ale. The pour was a boring, flat orange, and the palate was a bit sharp, yet crisp and tingly. Where it counts (aroma and flavor) this is a winner. BeerBunker (620), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2008 Shared by a BA friend. Batch 003. Pours a dark orange with a frothy white head. Nice carbonation. Aroma of hops, sour fruit, citrus, spice, cherries, and some nice oakiness. Taste is very sour up front, but settles to let more flavors out. Nice flavors of hops, oak, cherries, yeast, and citrus fruits. Extremely tart, thanks to all the sour fruit flavors. Has many wine characteristics, but still distinguishes itself as a damned good beer. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2007 Pours a brassy red with an open bubbled white head. The aroma is a sharp sour fruit. Cherry and other dark fruits with a brett based musty character. Great sourness and funky on the nose. The flavor is a mellowed tart fruit full of sour cherries and funky flavors. Sharp combination of vinegar, red wine, grapes, vinous, and saltiness. Even a funky fermented fruit with only a tiny hint of alcohol coming through. Mouth watteringly sour on the finish. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 6, 2005 Bottle batch 1: Pours murky red with a large head that fades to a solid layer that stays. Aroma is tart cherry, chalky brett, sweet malt backing, mild wine, slight wood that blends into the malt. The aroma gains fathoms of depth as it warms. Flavor is slightly sour cherry, chalky brett, and a mix of butter, oak, and malt that meld into a cohesive graham cracker taste near the finish. The graham cracker follows into the aftertaste were it melds with a fruity red wine that slowly appear. The finish leaves the tip of the tongue very dry yet leaves the middle and back wet, interesting. The palate is a little thin but it isn’t that much of a detractor. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Pours a light brown, dark gold in color. Smell is tart cherries and funk. There are also some wine qualities from the barrels as well. Taste is more of the tart cherries and a good amount of the Brett showing as well. Tart and sour on the mouthfeel and non-cloying. A real joy to drink. Everything melds itself together well and no one characteristic dominates. Very good sour. bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
