Sour cherry aromas, sour apricot, and something rich and sharp -- like a blue cheese -- works to really expand this beer’s range from the very first sniff. The fruit and funk on the nose still don’t prepare you for what’s coming. The beer is crisp and sour from the get-go. Lots of fruit, from raisin to cherry to lemon, and an acidic bite from the bacteria. There’s harmony throughout the palate and a long finish to enjoy the best, most careworn American sour ale in production. Wonderful stuff. Hopgeek (101), San Diego, California, USA

375ml corked bottle, makes a loud pop when opened. Pours a murky garnet hue into my goblet, makes a thin white head of very fine bubbles. Aroma is earthy with sweet dark fruits, bit of caramel and yeast. Flavor is acidic and sour... huge profile of sour cherries... a bit bready, peppery, moderately dry and bitter. Solid meduim palate leaving very thin syrup coating in the mouth, carbonation is high with a likeness to champagne and a warm finish. I like this alot, it is an excellent offering from Russian River. Highly recommended! ratman197 (3254), Arvada, Colorado, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Updated: Apr 14, 2009Batch 02. Pours a hazy copper-amber color with an even off-white that fades quickly, but can be roused up. Fantastic sour acetic notes touched by sour cherry and oak. The acetic aroma has an interesting unique sharpness to it. The taste is a perfect blend of sour supplied by the funk and fruity sourness of the cherry. The dryness in the finish really gives a vinous feel to the brew. Just enough carbonation to deliver the tartness on to the palate without being overbearing. A great sour ale. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 28, 2007 375 ml bottle purchased at the brewery. Batch 002. Poured a hazy sunset orange-red color. Head was two fingers high, fizzy, and off white. It reduced to a thin film after a minute or two. Aroma was of oak, sour cherry, and cereal grain. There was also a whiff of red wine vinegar. Effervescent on the tongue with assertive acidity. Tasted of sour berries, dry white wine, and vinegar. Sour throughout with a light fruity note hiding in the background at then end. Delicious.
