MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2009 Batch 003 thanks to kegbear and DirtyMartini! Cork blew out after I put a corkscrew into it, but no beer gushed. That beautiful, shimmering, hazy golden-straw color, fluffy white head with ample lacing... beautiful. Nose is really well put together: fruit with lots of wine and brett--yeast, egg, citrus, and hints of leather. Flavor is driven by the chardonnay, all the way through the finish. More citrus and yeast, again light leather. I like this a lot, but for me the wine is too overpowering in the flavor and the dry body bordered on fizzy overkill when coupled with the heavy carbonation. Another show-stopper from RR, but not an absolute favorite. Reminiscent of JP Luciernaga. hrking (108), Muncie, Indiana, USA Apr 27, 2009 I think I was expecting this to be more sour than it actually was but the wine barrel must have sweetened it up. Aged in chardonnay barrels really smoothed this one out and I think it personally could be a little more sour for my liking but this is a great beer none the less and if you are lucky enough to latch onto a bottle like i was I recommend it .. It is without a doubt a world class brew! Cheers. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Apr 21, 2009 Bottle shared at tasting. Poured a cloudy gold with lots of carbonation and a big white head. Aroma of vinegar, apple, wine, oak, funk. Taste is also vinous, with plenty of oak and tart fruit. Very interesting and sharp brew. Body is light and very carbonated. Overall, another enjoyable sour from RR.
Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Apr 20, 2009 Batch Number 003 bottle and sampled at Skyview Sourfest II and shared by Deliriumfest. Pours a hazy golden brew with a fizzy off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white top. Aroma of tart pear and brut champagne character with some yeast and tart apples. Taste is fizzy and medium bodied, with flavors of white grapes, apples, some yeast and a hint of Bret. Finish is slightly tart and dry, a little smooth texture with a aftertaste flavor of pear, yeast and dry apples. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Mar 23, 2009 Updated: May 24, 2009I drank this one by myself and loved every second of it. Perfect for me. Lots of nice white wine, grapes, and citrus and nice bubbles. Almost champagne like. Nice and smooth and wet with a crisp dry finish. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Mar 19, 2009 375 ml bottle courtesy of bvc and after4ever. Batch 003. Cork comes off easily with a loud pop. Pour is hazed golden with tons of fine carbonation and a pretty one inch white head. Very noisy beer, crackles as it falls. Carbonation bubbles just keep going and going. Unique looking beer. Aroma of soft vinegar sour, ripe apples, oak and farmyard funk. Nice integrated, gentle nose. Taste is sharp acidity initially, followed by the fruit from the nose (apples) plus wine grape notes. The oak barrel takes over midway through, with lemon citrus sour kicking up at the finish. Wow, the sour tartness at the start really evolved at the finish. The sour is never overpowering, just a nice amount of prickliness to the beer. The Brett notes are there, but pretty subdued. As this warms, the Chardonnay notes really kick in giving it interesting depth of flavor. Palate is highly carbonated, thin to medium, full flavored, extremely easy to drink. Thanks Tom for supplying this and Brandon for shipping it. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Mar 10, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra and co. Big thanks to the dude who bought it. This one is just plain awesome. Another sour from Russian River that I could sit and sip on all day and all night. Just beautiful. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Mar 10, 2009 Graciously poured a hazy yellow from the bottle by nubutler11. Color is a deep golden yellow. Aroma is big and thick - tart apple, champagne, citrus, faint apricot; very fruity overall. Flavor is what I expect a sour to be - heavy with fruit, dry notes of champagne, big carbonation. Not super-complex, just an overwhelming and pleasing impression of tart tangerine champagne.
