Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Mar 9, 2009 Wow. I usually am not much on sours but this takes the cake. Easily on of my best in a long time! Poured in a wine glass. Had to share the bottle with the missus. Cloudy yellow pour with a fizzy head. Funky aroma. Tastes like a funky sour white wine with some citrus. I want more! timbeer (45), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2009 Bottle shared with MatSciGuy - Pours a cloudy light amber - a lively beer with lots of carbonation behind it. The head itself does not last but the lacing hangs on for dear life. Sour apple, chardonnay lemon mixed and some sweaty aroma. Tastes like it smells-a complex blend. Light and spritsy on the tongue with a dry finish. MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2009 [Bottle] The second I loosened the cork, the pressure forced it out, and the bottle gushed just a little, but no beer lost. Pours a hazy gold with a large, effervescent white head. Aroma is lots of lactic tartness, earthy brett, maybe a touch of white wine character, horsey, lemony, and funky. Flavor is lactic tartness, lemon and other citrus, funky brett, and nice dry chardonnay. Very light, crisp mouthfeel and a very dry finish with lingering tartness. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 7, 2009 Rating #500. Bottle acquired via trade with WeeHeavySD. Pours a hazy apricot color with a frothy white head that leaves plenty of sugary lacing. Looks gorgeous. Smells of chardonnay and underripe fruit. Agressive with the flavors of tangerines and yellow cherries in the taste. Finishes like a dry champagne. Worth celebrating in its own right. jerk (13), North Carolina, USA Mar 2, 2009 Bottle from Batch 3...
Pours a beautiful cloudy golden color with a hugh fluffy white head, it looks like a cloud.
The aroma coming from the beer is amazing - sour apples, lemons, wild cherries, horse blanket brett, oak and small hits of chardonnay...wow this is great.
The flavor is equally amazing...sour apple, lemon sourness, wet oak, chardonnay flavors...its sour but not too sour at all a nice crisp dry finish.
The mouthfeel is wonderful...nice carbonation, nice sour profile. ggaughan (94), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Luxembourg Mar 1, 2009 The Temptation pours a very hazy orange/yellow color with a nice thick and sparkling head.
The first few sips of this beer definitely reminds you that it has been aged in Chardonnay barrels for an extended period of time and then you get the sour that is trademark RR.
Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Feb 28, 2009 Sampled on tap at the brewpub, from the bottle, and directly from the barrel. Thank you very much Vinnie and Natalie for this opportunity. Brilliant, clear, bright yellow gold with a fine, medium-thick white head. Lovely, fresh, tart aroma with yellow fruit and strawberry over a soft spiciness and wood-aged oxidation. The brett character shoes itself nicely in the flavor with focused, well-balanced sourness and darker "animal" characteristics against the light, yet sturdy, golden malt profile. Some alcohol comes through faintly in the long, multi-dimensional finish. This is finely-crafted, delicate, somewhat understated sour ale that slowly reveals itselfs quite rewardingly. Excellent. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 20, 2009 375ml bottle courtesy of largadeer, thanks a bunch for the opportunity. Beautiful, golden blonde color, cloudy. The smell is excellent and suggests sour and wine. The taste is pretty darn good and less sour than expected but still a pucker. This seems a little more subtle and complex compared to Supplication and Beatification but then maybe they aren’t meant to be compared? There is not much funk to be found but all in all this is excellent. I’ve been skeptical about paying high prices for beer but these barrel-aged RR beers are worth it in my mind.
