Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

375ml Bottle. Batch 002. Pours out a yellowish orange color with a little bit of a white head. Smell is sour, with some notes of wine, fruits, and a touch of hops. Taste is sour and slightly bitter with a nice bready oak flavored taste. A truly unique beer in all sense of the word. Very interesting, should be fantastic in another year. Great beer from a great brewery!

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow body with a white frothy head. Smells awesome! Green piney hops, brett-ridden, soft wheat, bread, and sweaty notes. Nice mixture of sugar and bread flavours along with dry yeastiness. Flavourful and wild!

Re-rate big old magnum @ RBSG I provided. This was sick sick sick. 375ml bottle, batch 001. Purchased at the Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA. Pours lightly golden straw with a large puffy white head. The aroma is citrus, oaky, and slighly like a lambic. The taste is sweet mild complex and robust. It has wine like qualities that remind me of a gueze. Its very good and unique certainly a wine like beer hybrid.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, biegaman, mds, Radek Kliber, tupalev & the rest of the gang. Pours a very cloudy yellow with a small diminishing creamy white head. Nice and subtle sour aroma with sweet malt, fruit, yeast and some faint oak. Flavour follows the aroma and is quite pleasant -- it’s complex, well balanced and really easy to drink. Medium bodied, dry mouthfeel. Like the other Russian River beers I’ve had, this is really good stuff.

Bottle (375ml). Shared with blankboy, biegaman, mds, Radek Kliber, tupalev and others. Rating #1900. Poured cloudy yellow-orange with an average creamy white head. Luscious balanced aroma; tart brett, restrained oak, sweet malt. The taste is everything the aroma promised and more - smooth, balanced between lightly funky/sour yeast and mellowed oaky malt, medium-long finish slides along like it’s on rails - nice! Dry, astringent, nicely carbonated mouthfeel - just awesome, like a softened, oak-aged Orval in a lot of ways, extremely easy to drink. Thanks for making the trip to get this one, man!

Thanks to droopy49 for this one. Pours fairly clear, light golden in color, with a large, lasting, tight white head. Fruity aroma. Slightly sour like an apple cider cellar. Some leather. Very complex and agreeable aroma. The flavor starts with some sweetness which is quickly overcome by a slightly acidic tartness that finishes dry and then turning spicy. I really liked the playfullness of this beer. The flavors and aromas are complex, yet this is light and very drinkable. Well done.
