black95tt (82), Doylestown, Ohio, USA Aug 15, 2006 Thanks to Leopold for the chance to try this gem. Aroma is spicy, earthy, woody, and very sweet with some sour citrus. Taste was much the same with a nice balance of sour malt, white grapes, citrus, funk, and sour fruits. The finish was pleasantly dry. This beer could very well usher me into the realm of sour beers, as I haven’t been much a fan of those until now. LeopoldStoch (201), Green, Ohio, USA Aug 12, 2006 First off...big thanks to andy for the chance to try this brew. Now on to the beer, it is hard to believe this is a beer when it is so reminiscent of an excellent chardonnay. Which makes it that much more amazing that it is in fact a beer. The aroma was all sorts of funk, yeast, oak, fruits, lemon zests, and the best chardonnay wine aromas. The taste absolutely followed suit. The commercial description says it all with "is it beer or is it wine?" Either way this stuff is awesome!!!! Now only if russian river would distribute this beer to Ohio (As well as their other beers...im sure they are just as good). Now I am on the quest to try supplication and others... irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA Aug 6, 2006 beer decants a lightly-hazed gold with a smallish white head that hangs around as a collar and leaves ok lace. tart nose definately has an acicdic kick, which actually seems more focused by the oak and winey fruitiness. flavor is actually less tart than the nose, with a mellow malt backbone playing nicely with the big oak kick, and all finished off by a nicely lactic tang. wonderfully complex is another work of art from Russian River. perhaps less complex than Supplication, but still a pretty amazing wine/beer hybrid. CamdenD (606), Madrid, Spain Jul 31, 2006 Reminded me a bit of a sour ale. Huge almost wine-like nose that is not overwhelmed by the oak aging. I had been looking forward to tasting some Russian River products, and this one was a little underwhelming, sour and a bit one-sided. McGrupp612 (29), hamburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 29, 2006 Excellent beer. This is a must try for any beer lover. brillaint golden color, white head. Sour aroma. Similar to a gueuze, but not as intense. The chardonnay barrels are evident but not overwhelming. I wish that I could afford a case! xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 24, 2006 Bottle from trade, batch 001. Pours like a champagne, lively, golden, and smelly - just the way I like it. Sour like socks from a winery that have been stomping grapes, only mixed with barley. Intensely fruity, white wine nose. As a drink - splendid. Quite unlike beer, slightly sour, but refreshing - wine like but not like wine - fresh, cool, refreshing. apples, pears. The sourness of brett is at a modestly low-ish point on the dial; this should be palatable for all but the stubbornest of drinkers. Odd intensely fine lacing - head is only a layer of dense bubbles along the rim, and a center bubble wellspring. Scotty, this beer is a live, beam me up a few more bottles. P.S. Calling this "belgian ale" does it no justice. It’s American, for one thing. FlySwatter (34), USA Jul 11, 2006 Golden color. Nice sour fruity aroma. Malty, fruity and sour flavor that finished dry. madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jul 8, 2006 375 ml bottle. Pours cloudy light orange with a thick white head. Some big aromas going on here, sour fruit and some spice that makes my nose tingle. Initial taste is fruit with a hint of malt, but then the oak and chardonnay really comes in a big way. Finishes sour and dry and the wine taste lingers for a little while. This is very unique. Texture is creamy and silky smooth. I really enjoyed this and it is very easy to drink.
