Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

A hazy orange beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is sweet yeasty combined with notes of wheat and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with an acidity from the wheat, combined with notes of yeast and alcohol. It has a rather nice balance.

Wow did this ever sell fast off the shelves of BevMo. Not even a week later and all of them are gone. The beer is a hazy blonde that has a lively carbonation topped by thin layer of film. Aroma is strong with alcohol that resembles a fine merlot or sangria wine. The beer is like no other beer i have before because of how similar to a wine it is. Slight notes of wood are found in the taste but an overwhelming serving of alcohol and sour fruit that gives my tastebuds a shock. Could of fooled me as being a Flemish sour ale.

Bottled, courtesy of sk8viking: Light yellow coloured. Unclear. Dense off white head. Sweet, fruity and light tarty aroma. Flavour is light acidic. Is quite grapish and light fruity. Quite complex. Medium body. Is sour and acidic in the end. Delicious beer.

Big thanks to DaveCooks for this one. The pour is hazy layered dark straw/deep golden color with a great 2-finger white fluffy head. The aroma is Bretty, with that oaky funk common to gueuzes, plus some citrus (orange zest, lemon) and honey malts, plus floral dry spices and coriander. Complex aroma. The flavor is tart, very gueuzy, but with more sweetness in the apricotty oaky fruit, white wine grape, and citrus components (more citrus than fruit). The palate is dense and extremely complex, and the beer retains a tart citric frutiness as it warms, alond with the dry floral spiciness. This beer was so good it was all I could do not to chug the whole damned thing! This one is worthy of a top 50 slot.

(Bottle) Pours a hazy orangey golden with a creamy, white head leaving a neat lacework. Very pleasant, lightly tart Brett aroma. Medium-bodied, dry and lightly malty with distinct, tart Brett accents. Very refreshing. 210506

Thanks, René for sharing this one. Nice hazy golden-yellow beer with small white head. Aroma is fine and refreshing, it has subtile lactic and citric sensations allong with hints of flower bloossems and hints of Greek Yoghurt. The more complex aroma’s come from the woody caracter of the barrels. It has a tart edge with a smooth vanilla accent. The taste is crisp, well ballanced and has a complex refreshing lambik like souriness. It is light to medium boddied but this great brew has so much to offer. The spectrum of the taste sensations is so wide and goes from a light maltyness over some noble wood to lactic yoghurt, sour fruits like (Duindoorn), vanilla, ripe rubarb, lemon zest and some honey. This is what ballance is all about.
