Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

375ml bottle, batch 003. Pours a brilliant murky golden orange with a small off white head. Chardonnay grapes and toasted oak dominate the aroma, back by some citrus and a light funk. Flavor is both sweet and sour, a little musty. Another great sour from Russian River.

the aroma of the first pint was a mixture of pineapple, cinnamon, peach & apricot..very juicy sweet and fruity..my second pint showed wacky barnyard and leather thrown into the mix..the flavors were juicy, tangy, barnyard and leather, peaches..so damn good..this batch, if i remember what the brewer said..was slightly lower in alcohol than usual (around 6%)..its all about the brettanomyces in this one..gettin creapy like a barnyard..

375 ml bottle (batch 001) via trade with Irishboy - Pours a hazy golden color with a 1/2 finger thick white head. Very light lacing. Has a light, but musty ripe fruit aroma with a faint hint of oak. No tartness in the aroma! The flavor is slightly tart esters with a little bit of malt sweetness. Fairly mild compared to some of the of Sours I’ve tried. The tartness lingers a tad on the palate. Medium body. A pretty nice Sour. Maybe I should age all my Sours for 3 to 4 years before drinking. Thanks Richard.

Bottle: Columbus tasting shared by my santa. Clear gold with an off white head. Aroma was tart and sour, with a bit fruitiness to it. Flavor, sour, some light fruits, lemon, grapes. Really good brew.

Rerate -
Gigantic 3 Liter bottle shared at tasting. Huge thanks for the chance to enjoy such a fantastic beer and so much of it! Pours a nice glowing orange color with a lasting foamy and bubly white head. Smell is slightly oak, some bret, and fresh dry citrus rind. Taste was mild, a slightly citrusy quality and very oaky with some mild sourness. Quick finish, and incredibly drinkable, I thought. Thanks again!!

Bottle ordered from brewery. Dark golden in color. Looks kind of like a tripel. Sour earthy aroma with a little acidity. Tart fruitiness up front. A little bit of graininess. A hint of sweetness on the back of the throat. Mildly sour. Fairly well balanced between the sour and yeastiness. A little bitterness in the finish.
