Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

A Mes rate: Bottle at weekend of tarts.
Semi hazy gold colour with a very well behaved head. Lovely wooden notes in the aroma. Flavour is dry and sour with some pineapple, fairly obvious but far from offensive alcohol, fanbloodytastic balance of sweet and tart, plenty yeasty notes and a refreshing hit of funky citrus at the finish. Mouthfeel is utterly stunning. Almost mellow but still quite big in the body. A stunning beer.

MASSIVE thanks Mike.

Bottle shared courtesy of TomDecapolis (thanks!). Poured a lighter to medium golden color and slightly hazy with a smaller sized white head. Aromas of brett, wine, lightly sour, and fruity. Tastes of some sour apple, oak, citrus and vinous. Lightly sour. Enjoyable.

(375ml bottle, batch 1) Pours a lightly cloudy orange body with a moderate white head. Aroma of subtle oak barrel, vanilla beans, and fruitiness. Flavor of spicy yeast, mild gueuze-like tartiness, earthiness, lightly toasted malt, and apple. Excellent beer!

Hazy golden sandy blonde. Head is white, small, lasting. Very vinous nose contains strong farmy and funky notes that seems to multiply the fruit presence. Banana bread soaked in cider and banged around with tart white grapes. Globally very fresh and classy, yet you feel this would survive many years. The palate is delicate, flowery and vibrantly tart in a pineapple way. Fresh fruitiness brings the complexity through the roof. It somehow manages to remain accessible thanks to a striking balance and transcendent "classiness". Bretty cobwebs, cidery salty minerals. Satisfying, juicy, yet dry. Firm champaigny carbonation, smooth palate. My new favorite from Vinnie.

Bottle thanks to jjk2635389hdgd! Arom is very noteable white wine, like a full bodied funky tart madira wine. Taste is similar, the oak is key, very maderia white wine like characterists, but with shear raw drinkability.

12.70 oz bottle-pours a big foamy to shaving cream off white head and cloudy yellow color. Aroma is yeast, yeast, lemon, funky/vinegar. Taste is tart/sour lemon, yeast, vinegar/sour, woody, some spice, musty. Nicely done sour ale, but not my taste. Interesting. Occasional. Dry finish. Medium body. Thanks mfielden for picking this out.

Pours a hazy golden with a nicely lacing white head. Aroma is dry, barnyardy, funky and nicely oaked with a touch of fruity tartness and brett. Very complex and balanced body has lots of yeasty funk and good tartness without being overpowering. Enjoyable white wine character with great flavor and a touch of cheesiness. A nice, authentic and unique beer. Russian River is fast becoming one of my favorite breweries.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Hazy, golden ale with a small, frothy, white head. Good retention. Woodsy aroma with notes of white wine, vanilla and lemon. Tart, buttery flavor with oak, vanilla and butterscotch. Light-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Woodsy, tart, buttery finish. Odd combo, but terrific. World class brew!
