Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

On tap at Brouwer’s for Sour Fest. Pours a golden pilsner like color with bubbles and moderate lacing on the head. The aroma was flat sourness and the taste matched.

Bottled sample shared with oakbluff. Sunny yellow in colour with some spritzy carbonation. Aromas of lemon curd, a bit of funk and a bit of old oak. Very tart in the mouth with more of the lemon, wood, and funk thing going on (the funk being more pronounced), along with the faint suggestion of Chardonnay grapes. Heavier in the mouth than any traditional Belgian lambic that I’ve had, but no less refreshing. An excellent beer.

Crushed with Jakebra and co. Big thanks to the dude who bought it. This one is just plain awesome. Another sour from Russian River that I could sit and sip on all day and all night. Just beautiful.

Bottle thanks to Timmy300. This was what I knew would get us going. Poured and cloudy yellow with a nice head. Nose is huge, lots of Brett and citrus, apples and champagne. First taste is amazing, tons of acid and sour grass, lemon juice, apple cider and dry white wine. Full body. Quenching and more. Gotta love the lambic culture. Best beer I’ve had in a long time.

From a bottle poured a slightly hazy golden/orange color with a good amount of head. Nice tart flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

375ml bottle. Pours slightly orange yellow with a thin white head of super fine bubbles. Head is resilient and leaves a good amount of lace. Smells citrusy and sour, lemony. A little funk in the nose as well. Tastes sour and citrusy, but its more than just citrus. Can’t put my finger on the flavors though, lemon I guess, I’ll leave it at that. Just a little bit of straw/funkiness in the flavor. Medium body, vibrant active carbonation.

Bottle via Vinnie from RR comping me due to my mistake (yep Vinnie frakkin’ rules!). Batch 001.Been saving this for 6 months. Pours a crystal clear gold with a large white head that leaves more than enough lace on my Pilsner glass. Nose is unique-sort of a cross between a champaigne and a fine red wine. Taste is quite unique. Like most RR beers, it starts with an explosion of fruit. THis one starts with my favorite apples;pink ladies, then some peach & strawberries, and then the pink lady finishes again. Dry clean finish. Medium body. I do not care for this style, but honestly this is great stuff. I liken it to a punk rocker that recognizes the best C & W band he has ever heard.....and knows it is good..and that all is well! I hate the style but love this beer, what more can u seay?! Get it & try it if u know whats good 4 u?!

re-rate- Pretty much the same notes, but a wonderful brew with a pleasant finish; especially with almost 2 years of age. I must have been drunk when I originally rated this. Pours a slightly hazy golden hue with a delicate small white head. Aromas of citrus. lemons ad yeast. Mouth feel is medium bodied with flavors of citrus, a slight spiciness and a little oak flavor.. Overall, I was not completely impressed.
