Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

Mega thanks to DarkElfster for this in trade. slightly murky bright golden color with a foamy off-white head. lovely yeasty brett aroma, a little sour peach too. light malt & candi sugar. flavor is dryish but not overly so. more yeastiness and candi sugar malt. lively carbonation. tastes quite like a Fantome.

375ml bottle, batch 003. Apples, lemons, oak & old leather in the aroma. The initial taste is so dry that it is shocking. Tannins, oak, carbonation, and a very low residual sugars create a very dry tasting beer. The flavor is light and fruity with white grapes, pears, tart lemons, and finish of barnyard flavors. The brett seems understated and there is a lot more than brett going on for wild bugs in this one, the sourness is too much for just brett. This is a wonderful beer, very tasty. The 375ml bottle leaves me wanting more. Huge thanks go to Footbalm and O’Deed for this beer.

8/8/09 notes: (on tap at Blue Palms. Poured into snifter a brilliant gold and white gold color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is an incredible oaky, funky, lemon tartness. Flavor first hits you with lemon meringue, then settles into a blend of strong brett funkiness, faint wood hints and some fresh cut grass. Acidity returns in the finish, lemon-lime for sure. Perhaps the best part about Temptation is the palate, which remains “buttery” but clean throughout, just light enough so that the lemon flavors can emphasize a zippy quality, and smooth to show complexity.

Sampled at Hellbillys Hellraiser II. Pours a cloudy fizzy golden color with a good looking white head. Aroma is sour funky goodness. Flavor is sour, funk, grapefruit and the sourness is very nice. Wow, this is an amazingly complex brew.

375 ml brown, longneck Belgian-style bottle. Corked & caged. Batch #002. Poured out a hazy yellow / orangish color, with a huge white head. Aromas are of slight lambic qualities, Brett is noticeable. Fruity, estery, but definitely a Belgian style beer. Decent body, slick mouthfeel. Wish I had bought a few of these to drink. Goes down too easily. Decent beer overall.

Pours a straw yellow color with a rich soapy white head. Aroma of lemon, funk, and yeast. Flavor is tart, funky, with vinous, sour and hints of oak in each sip. Another high end offering from Russian River.

12.7 oz bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Chill haze golden color with a full off white head. Aroma is acidic and kinda white wine vinegar like. Flavor is fruity, citrus tart up front with some wood and the finish is dry and rather sour/acidic. Medium bodied and champange like with lively carbonation. .
