Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

never again. $14 for a 14 oz bottle of this. I hate bret and sour beers. This accomplishes both. sour and vinous. reminds a lot of stille nacht reserve 2005. though that threw in a lot of alcohol too.

thanks zeswaft. opaque, pretty pastel orange color. limited head. pretty much anything with bret smells and tastes of little more than bret. tyler said it’s just like bam biere and in a lot of ways i agree. super carbonated, pretty sour. a little one dimensional but balanced. very drinkable.

rating #900. Bottle from trade with wavers1- thanks! batch 004x1. pours a hazy golden yellow with a white head. leaves some decent lace. Aroma is lemon, grassy hops, herbs, pear, some light funkiness. flavor is lemon, grapes, bread, musty basement. beers don’t get much more crisp and refreshing than this. I’m not a big fan of blonde ales in general, but this is awesome. extremely well balanced. just an all around well crafted beer. Russian river is tight. I gotta move out to santa rosa!

375 ml bottle. batch 3. from kmwever. a huge thanks to you ken, i owe you. pour hazy golden with a big fluffy white head that stays the whole way down the glass. by the time i reach the bottom my snifter is covered in lace and the head is with you to the last sip. i never thought a golden beer could look so pretty. the aromas make me salivate every time i indulge. wonderful woody, sour ale, white wine, apple, green fruit, citrus, aromas. flavours are sour up front with apple and wood. remeniscent of white wine but increibly soft and palatable. citrusy and grapey. no trace of the abv and full in the mouth in a playful way. wonderfully crafted and a joy to drink. i almost cant bring myslef to finish it because then it will be gone. thanks again ken this was a true gem.

Bottle: Cloudy, pale gold with a fizzy white head. Aromas of tangy cider, apple skins and the tastes are similar to a Flemish Sour Ale and hard cider. Nice finish. I love this!

bottle batch 4 poured a golden apple color with a little ring of white foam. aroma has bright white grapes, sour funk, vinegar, oak, citrus zest, and plenty of bretty yeast. crisp mouth feel with nice full carbonation. flavor is initially intensely sour, vinegar, oak, crisp white grapes, and a nice countering sweetness. the yeast just blow this out, bitter citrus, and it finishes with a mouth watering dryness. this is my favorite of the russian river sours I have tried so far.

bottle from naven. Nice, light, and mildly sour. A very good, drinkable, summertime sour ale. Great.
