Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

A huge thank you to Dickinsonbeer for opening up his cellar and sharing one bottle each of all three batches. My rating here is batch 3, although batch 1 ran a close second for me. 375 ml bottle. The cork nearly exploded out of the bottle when Paul pulled it. Pours a beautiful brilliant clear gold with a moderate white head. There is some funk in the nose, but nothing heavy. There is also a bright, fruity tartness along with some oak in the aroma. The flavor is very interesting and has a few different things going on that all comes together perfectly. There is chardonnay and some mellow oak. There is a also granny smith apple and a bit of lemon, which adds a brightness to the flavor. The brett adds some funk, but it doesn’t dominate or overwhelm. Bright, lively and clean on the palate. Excellent!

12oz c&c bottle, props to gputty! Cloudy yellow gold with a creamy off white head. Very lambic-like nose - mildly sour, barnyardy brett. Lively, bubbly body. Fascinating flavors - sharp white wine notes, lightly sour brett, mild vanilla touches. WOW! Like nothing I have ever had. Bravo, RR!

Excellent beer. This is a must try for any beer lover. brillaint golden color, white head. Sour aroma. Similar to a gueuze, but not as intense. The chardonnay barrels are evident but not overwhelming. I wish that I could afford a case!

bottle at Monks Cafe, Philly. I am glad I finally got to try this. Hazy straw/light golden with good carbonation and a long lasting medium then small head. Aroma is light colored fruit, apples, pears, and is quite tart- smells like a brett bomb, in a good way. Taste is much like the aroma, tart fruit- pears, apple with a slighly sour and bitter fruit finish.

God this is good. This is just friggin incredible. Beautiful to look at and to drink, and that my friends is a wonderful thing. Aroma floats around with notes of cherries, sourness, some chardonnay. Mouthfeel is soft. Flavors are just off the chart with some oak, the obvious chardonnay, with a tart finish I love.

Very, very different. pours lightly hazy, golden color. Sourness is offset by some sweetness. fruity with some citrus. carbonation is great and complements the almost wine/champagne characteristics. very memorable beer in that it is so different from just about anything else. A must try.

Bottle Batch 003: Thanks golubj! Pours a lively cloudy golden with a creamy thick white head that leaves a spotty lace. Aroma is vinous, oaky, hints of aged swiss cheese, lemon, white pepper, apple cider, honey and vanilla wood. Amazingly complex. Frothy and crisp body. The flavor is a perfect marriage of sweet and tart. Very subtle honey notes, smooth oak presence, herbal subtleties, sharp citrus fruitiness, mild Gouda, sharp Parmigiano-Reggiano, acetic apple cider, and just a touch of vanilla in the back somewhere when it warms. A Sour Ale of vast complexity, superiority and drinkability.

Re-rate big old magnum @ RBSG I provided. This was sick sick sick. 375ml bottle, batch 001. Purchased at the Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA. Pours lightly golden straw with a large puffy white head. The aroma is citrus, oaky, and slighly like a lambic. The taste is sweet mild complex and robust. It has wine like qualities that remind me of a gueze. Its very good and unique certainly a wine like beer hybrid.
