Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

Fluffy head; some haze (hazier toward the bottom of the bottle); pale yellow-orange. Spritzy and refreshing. Champagne-like texture. Light and delicate malts balanced by breezy notes of lemon, yeast and light flowers. Somewhat vinous at times. Nice sourness and a pinch of white vinegar gives it a zingy edge. Very pleasant beer.

Opaque golden - it has that nectar look to it. Say what you want about Vinnie’s beers - they are beautiful to look at. The aroma is bretty, corky, and highly vinous - the most directly winey nose since Stille Nacht Reserva. The flavour is slightly toasty, highly vinous with a puckeringly tart finish. There is a bit of astringency at the back. Leathery, fairly tart finish. Firm pale malts and alcohol support the effort throughout. Kick ass.

750ml bottle. Astounding aroma, with funky, farmy yeast, floral notes, wood, honeyish sweetness, faint winey tones, grassiness and straw. Light yellow color, cloudy, with a lasting, fine head. Flavor profile is impressive as well, dry, very lightly winey, tart, woody, leafy and gently bitter, in turns. Nicely refreshing palate, very light feel and moderate effervescence, body is medium. Really nice!

GABF: multiple samples. Some honey and melon in the nose, barrel yeast, wet basement molds -- this all very good. Wow this beer has improved. Lush with subdued hops. Very cleanly alcoholic -- no fusels. No big bad fruit esters. This is delicious!

Bottle@SpontaneousWeekend08. This is abolutely great stuff! Strong powerful aroma of bourbon, malts, apple and light alcoholic. Hazy, yellow color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, sourish, malty, apple, bitter, very smooth mouthfeel. Great balance. Feels more alcoholic than just 7.25% ABV. Thanks mjames for sharing this!

12.7 oz bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Chill haze golden color with a full off white head. Aroma is acidic and kinda white wine vinegar like. Flavor is fruity, citrus tart up front with some wood and the finish is dry and rather sour/acidic. Medium bodied and champange like with lively carbonation. .

3rd FoBAB. Hazy, golden body with a huge, fluffy white head. White grapes, oranges, warming alcohol, old oak, horseblanket, hay--dry, soothing and terrific. The body is spectacular, with soft, active carbonation that lays on the tongue like a wave of velvet. Cool, bright fruits, light sweetness, excellent Brett character and light woodiness. Tart acidic character comes on as well, leaving that oh-so-cool mouthpucking sensation of joy. What an awesome beer and an awesome experience. Here’s to many more Brett classics from Russian River!

Huge thanks to Beerdrenched for sharing this great beer, my first Russian River. Pours moderate yellow with a small white head. The aroma is fruity and tart (very brett) with pepper, white grapes and sharp citric lemon - very sweet / tart flavors. Medium / light body with minor sharp carbonation. The taste starts with sharp citric lemon, lots of sour / tart traits, bits of wood and grainy spice. The finish is wonderfully sour and refreshing. Lots of tart goodness. Thumbs up for this fantastic beer.
