Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

May ’08 rating. 3L bottle shared by Blake. Hazy orange body, small white head. Horsey, grapefruit rind aroma. The flavor adds a nicely complex acidity to a basic pale malt base. Very good stuff - it has a complex acidity instead of the usual one-dimensional sourness found in most American sour ales. Previous - 8 4 7 3 14 Bottle, 5/05 batch. Pours a clear dark golden body with a big foamy head that dies down ot a thin creamy layer. Nice lacing. Great aroma - hits two distant points of the flavor spectrum with powder sugar and acidic grapefruit and silage unified by light wood. Lambic-y tartness but nowhere near as complex or strong. Straight-up acidity over pefumy, floral light malt. The beer deserves a good score but doesn’t excite me a whole lot.

the aroma of the first pint was a mixture of pineapple, cinnamon, peach & apricot..very juicy sweet and fruity..my second pint showed wacky barnyard and leather thrown into the mix..the flavors were juicy, tangy, barnyard and leather, peaches..so damn good..this batch, if i remember what the brewer said..was slightly lower in alcohol than usual (around 6%)..its all about the brettanomyces in this one..gettin creapy like a barnyard..

Bottled-conditioned sample generously donated by Vinnie Cilurzo for a Belgian-style beer tasting in New Mexico. Hazy, deep golden body with a clean white head. Nose is very horsey plus overripe pineapple. Funkier than hell and I dig it. Oaky, white wine qualities come through strong in the flavor and combine very nicely with the ale yeast and brett properties. Some sourness in the flavor and a lingering, delicate bitterness in the finish. Complex and very interesting. This is what beer is about.

Beer pours cloudy, golden honey color with a well retained egg white colored head. Aroms is lightly sour with wonderful yeastiness, cobwebs and a bit of white wine aroma. Flavors are of light fruit, nice yeast and some wet wood. Mouthfeel is very smoth and well carbonated. Excellent.

Hazey golden appearance, excellent head formation. Wild, cidery, yeasty aroma. Plenty of fruitiness on the palate, lemon and orange, sour puckery second half with plenty of acidity in the finish. Long sour fruity aftertaste.

Yeasty nose, deep yellow color, creamy clingy head. Green apple sourness, tart. Almost like a gueze. Medium body. Really Belgian-like beer. Excellent beer overall.

12oz corked & capped bottle This is a hazy golden pour, with a slightly must aroma, a full mouthfeel with a slightly tangy flavor with an absolutely smooth and clean finish. The influence of the chardonnay barrels is apparent. Great beer for a hot day or with spicy food
