Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

Yeasty nose, deep yellow color, creamy clingy head. Green apple sourness, tart. Almost like a gueze. Medium body. Really Belgian-like beer. Excellent beer overall.

Gold-orange with an active white head, aroma is fruity sour, yeasty. Flavor is apple, lemony, perhaps a tinge of wood, vinous and tart, somewhat acidic but clean finish. Impressive creation.

re-rate- Pretty much the same notes, but a wonderful brew with a pleasant finish; especially with almost 2 years of age. I must have been drunk when I originally rated this. Pours a slightly hazy golden hue with a delicate small white head. Aromas of citrus. lemons ad yeast. Mouth feel is medium bodied with flavors of citrus, a slight spiciness and a little oak flavor.. Overall, I was not completely impressed.

Pours a hazy amber with a huge white head that slowly fades. Aroma is light hay, mild barnyard, sweet light fruit ( pear, white grapes), cider, mild dry wood, fruity light white wine. Flavor is light hay, dry cider, sweet light fruits, oak, soft fruity white wine. Very nice beer the wood the fruitness and slight acidity of the wine and the belgian yeastiness mix for a unique and a great beer.

Bottle picked up at O’Briens: Pale golden color with a thick white head and adequate lacing. The nose is tart and spicy with some citric funky brett character and a light pilsner malt and hop note. The flavor is nice and tart with a well balanced fruity character; cherry with light grapefruit and a nutty finish. Light body, well built, full of different flavors and complexity. Nice.

Pours cloudy gold, with a white head. Aromas are sour fruit and white wine. Flavors are fruit, white wine, and yeast. Slightly sour and tart, but in no way overpowering. A nice mix/balance between a strong and sour ale. Highly enjoyable.
