Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma of white wine, apples and citrus. Flavor I’m also pickig up the white wine. I’m not a huge white wine fan, but I enjoyed this beer a lot.

Enjoyed with elnadeau tonight. Kinda a geueze lite. Much of the sour notes one woudl find on a gueuze without as much funk. Head was light, color was golden yellow. A real tartness on the mouth, sour apples, tart grapes. Like matinelli’s cider without the sugar. Mouth feel is light and effervescent a bit like champagne. Tast profile finishes dry and clean with a touch of yeast funk. Quite an interesting brew.

Bottled batch #002. Hazy dark gold with a viscous white head. Strong musty cellar, oak and barnyard aroma. Flavors of vinous and lemon fruit with strong oak and barnyard musty earth. A very refreshing taste here with a mildly sour acidic finish. Enjoyed this one on 3/5/2007

[bottle, batch 3, shared with DarkMagus] Pours a hazy yellow with a very dense white head. Loads of visible carbonation. Aroma is quite tart and funky. Flavors are full of microbiology.. tart and funky brett character provides some interesting pineapple and fruit esters. Really complex and bone-dry finish. Thirst quenching and delicious. An outstanding beer, overall.

(375 ml bottle (batch 002) via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>IrishBoy, thanks Richard!, cellared for 1 yr. after trade) Soft and tart...Pours cloudy light goldish amber with one finger of white head that recedes to a thin lasting layer. Aroma of light citrus, Bretty yeastiness and sour. Mouthfeel quite soft and very smooth, lightly effervescent. Bits of scattered lacing. Flavor is lightly sour and tart, sourness is not overdone. Pleasant citrusy quality. A little yeasty as well. Light lingering tart citrus aftertaste. Nice.

I drank this one by myself and loved every second of it. Perfect for me. Lots of nice white wine, grapes, and citrus and nice bubbles. Almost champagne like. Nice and smooth and wet with a crisp dry finish.
