sayravai (3045), Helsinki, Finland Jul 26, 2008 (Draught@SOPP) Hazy reddish amber with a smallish but lasting head. Somewhat stingy, grainy-malty aroma of sweat and currant jello. Sweet and grainy-sweaty flavor of strawberries and currants, with low bitterness. Medium-bodied, slightly ashy palate with soft carbonation. A decent brew, but not very Belgian. tarjei (1154), Bryne, Norway Oct 12, 2007 On tap at the brewpub, as «Munkens Ale» (6,5% ABV). Dark golden color, off-white head. Sweet; caramell, malt, fine bitterness. MiP (4951), Flensburg, Germany Jun 18, 2007 Bottle at KØ07. Hazy brown colour. Sweet, malty flavour with some anis. The flavour is not really strong as the name suggests. But OK, I guess. yngwie (3458), Kristiansand, Norway Jul 8, 2007 Bottle at Københavnske Øldage. When the draught beers were served too cold, this one was too warm. It poured clear, golden, with a small, white head. The nose was a bit wheaty, spiced, sweet and with some ginger or cardamom-like notes. The flavor almost gave me that Christmas feeling, with cardamom and some other spices, as well as sweetness and pale malt. Medium body, and a sweet and lightly spiced finish. I’m not quite sure what I think of this one, but it is certainly drinkable, but I don’t think it’s the typical Belgian strong ale.
