gunnfryd (2732), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 28, 2008 Bottle @ Maria tasting. Red brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malt, hop, licorice. Flavour is malt, hop, licorice, coffee, caramel, fruit. Pleasent nice beer. Grovlam (2997), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 20, 2008 # 25 Bottle. [Papsoe’s great blind tasting, thanks Henrik!]
Large fin bubbled beige head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Muddy mahogany color. Aroma of overripe fruit, brown sugar, mild toasted malt, and what appears like an herbal feel. Over the palate came roasted malt, hint of chocolate and spice, star aniseed. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation and light alcoholic dry texture. Moderated sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Sweet spicy lingering finish.

Ungstrup (11075), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 23, 2008 Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with quite strong notes of cinnamon. The flavor is sweet mlaty with notes of caramel and alcohol. The alcohol leaves a burn in the throat. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 27, 2008 (Bottle 70 cl) Hazy orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Sweet licorice aroma. Medium-bodied with hard roasted malts and distinctly sweet licorice notes. Almost no bitterness. I would’ve liked a bit more balancing hops. 190408 yngwie (3458), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 24, 2008 Bottle, from trade with papsoe. It pours a hazy, orange-red body with a beige head. Not much stout-like. Sweet, malty and fruity aroma with a very faint note of rubber, and some coffee in the background. Sweet, fruity and caramel-like flavor, touch of licorice. Balancing fruityness and maltyness good, but it’s not the kind of imperial stout I’m used to. Fullbodied, effervescent and sweetish in the mouth. Touch of spicyness in the finish. It’s yet another nice brew from Søkildegaard, but it’s really pushing the limits of an imperial stout. (080412)
