Commercial Description:
Awarded a Silver Medal in the World Beer Championships in the Amber Ale category for 1998, this is our flagship ale. It has a nutty malt flavor which is balanced by a citris hop flavor and a classic ale fruitiness. We distribute this ale on draft and in bottles throughout Northern & Central New York.

[On tap at MacGregor’s in Penfield, NY] Sackets Harbor War of 1812 Ale is an amber ale with a thin, dense, splotchy white head that soon fades. The aroma is faint, slightly sweet and slightly roasty. It has a medium light body and it’s reasonably smooth. The flavor is faint and a little sour. It’s not very bitter and a bit wooden tasting. Overall, it’s a pretty unoffensive beer.

Bottle-hmmmmm, my review will go against the grain with most of the other ratings, of course, my tastes perfer the ambers and oktoberfests. There really isn’t an aroma I could detect. I’m marking this down to the single bottle purchase and that the beer might be a little older than prefered. The beer was a solid copper color with a small head and a slight, consistant amount of carbonation that kept the head refresh the entire time. The beer had a bready taste mixed with caramel and the feel of a pub ale. Produce place 1.49

Tap. Amber colored with a nice head produced by the tap. Better aroma than expected. A nice caramel and toast aroma left me thinking I had been missing out on a gem. But the flavors were disappointing. The toast-bread flavors didn’t translate well in the taste and I was stuck with a almost metallic bitter taste that was a big turnoff.

From bottle. Mild caramel and biscuit notes, light hoppy acidity, neutral fruits. Medium orange-amber clear, with quickly dissipating head. Light body with medum carbonation. Starts with a little sweetness, light acidity and some nutty-dry caramel. Dull sweet malt until the end, with a mild bitter and nutty after.

Bottle. Pours amber orange with a beige head. Aroma is very light, with a bit of caramel malt. Medium body. Flavor is again very light, with some caramel malt, light hops and a light fruity sweetness. Not bad I guess.
