Sacramento Brewhouse Black Lager

On tap. Pours black and almost opaque with a vague tint of red and a creamy beige head. Buttery aroma. Medium body, a little low in carbonation, notes of hard roasted malt and a fusty edge. Very subdued bitterness. Doesn’t appear completely fresh. 130709

From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a golden amber glare and a small tan head. Aroma is of hardroasted dark malt and with a hint of butter. Roasted malty and light toffee butterish - not really overly so. Mild acidic roasted flavoured finish.

On tap at the brewery. This black beer poured with a rich tan head and a treacle aroma. The flavor is dark malt and caramel . This is a typical, but very good, schwarzbier with some great malt and a nice dry finish.

Draft. Blackish beer with a light tan head. Diacetyll aroma with light acrid dark malt. Light diacyetal flavor with roasty/toasty malts and light darker malts. Medium bodied. Malt and a toasty/roastiness lingers with light cocoa.

Draft at the brewpub. A chestnut brown beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and butter. The flavor is sweet with notes of butter, caramel, and nuts, leading to a dry toffeeish finish.

Tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a small head. Aroma is vague, mostly of roasted malt and a little metallic. Again roasted malts in the flavor, olive; metallic finish. Flavor is just very mild, tame. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Decent, drinkable, nothing more, nothing less. Overall, fair plus.
