alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Feb 3, 2009 For some reason this was on at PP Carlsbad in February. Orange to caramel in color with a off white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, and toasted nuts. Flavor of fruity caramel in the base with an earthy finish. Some bread, apple, and a faint hint of sweetness. A bit unusual for the style, if there is such a thing, but nothing great. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Sep 27, 2008 Tap at Fair Oaks’toberfest. Amber color with an off-white head. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Flavor is lightly smoky caramel. Finish is mildly astringent. Tasty ale. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 27, 2008 This amber ale poured with a thin beige head. There is a hearty smoked malt flavor with some sweetness and nice balancing hops. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Oct 2, 2006 On tap at the Sacramento location. 4 ounce sample. Somewhat spicy hop aroma with some more toasted maltiness present. Light floral hop notes are also detected, while the aroma as a whole is somewhat faint and lacking the sweetness I expect from the style. Moderately/mostly hazy unfiltered orangey-amber body with a nice, firm off-yellowish head. Attractive. Toasty, malty, slightly smoked start, which becomes very spicy and pretty hopped to finish. Hops are too present for this style and malts are not sweet enough. Not really to style. This is different, but good.
