Intense bourbon aroma comes through like macaroons, with a touch of chocolate and coconut blended with smooth alcohol. Flavors follow suit, with an added layer of oak. Vanilla highlights come through in the finish. I seriously hope this becomes a regular/annual treat for SacBrew - the brewmaster there nailed this beer.

Draft at the Oasis, growler at home. Cloudy unfiltered medium brown color. Thin quickly dissipating light tan head. Caramel, oak and bourbon nose. Sweet malty taste with nice mouth feel. The bourbon notes really push through on the back of the palate that carries through into the finish Lingering finish with hints of chocolate and oak as well.

Draft. Rich amber brown beer with a cream colored head. Caramel and bourbon aroma with vanilla and light oak. Caramel and bourbon flavor with a bit of wheat showing through and some fruitiness. Medium-plus bodied. Caramel, bourbon, and wheat lingers with vanilla and oak. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. This dark brown ale poured with a thin beige head and a fruity aroma. There is a very rich sweet malt flavor with lots of fruit and some nice bourbon heat at the finish. This is a nice brew.

I first drank this beer Thanksgiving weekend 2008. It’s in limited supply at the brewery and they won’t pour growlers. I was blown away at the time and am enjoying it again today. I have already had a couple of surprisingly great beers this afternoon (check my ratings) so the Old Pappy’s doesn’t seem quite as spectacular as it did in Novembver. Really great beer nonetheless. Copper color, white head. Nose is whiskey with very, very faint floral hops. Taste isn’t sickly sweet but it’s like a mouthful of bourbon witha teaspoon of brown sugar. There’s definitely strong alcohol in the taste and on the palate. Really good.

Draft at the brew pub. Near opaque brown color with a slight off-white head. Dark aromas of brown sugar and fruit. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor of dark brown sugars/fruits/malt. Bit of heat. Bit of bourbon. Almost a touch of cola.
