| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 20, 2004 Pours a dark black-brown red in color, light reddish purple head/lacing. Aroma is sweet, fruity with chocolate and coffee undertones. Taste is similar, slightly bitter. Like semi-sweet chocolate chips with a slight coffee taste. Smokey, roasty, lingers a little with an almost burnt flavor. Slightly watered down, bland. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2004 Found a bottle of this at the Geary St. BevMo in San Francisco, and opened it while camping in Brookings, Oregon. Piotch black with a creamy tan head, although the light to judge the appearance wasn’t sufficient. Creamy milk nose with a small touch of cherries when warm, very thick texture up front, but lessens through the drink. Kind of an empty palate experience... just dulls out really quick. Some smoky and spiced malts, just a little kick, with a major creamy flavor throughout. Falls short. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 18, 2004 Pours a midnight black with almost no head. Strong chocolate and coffee aroma. Taste is rich and sweet with the chocolate coming through well. Decently bitter end with a almost imperial stout like thickness. Not bad, but feels a bit weak for an imp. stout. has the usual imperial stout appearance: black.
medium body, slightly hoppy, but really lacks the cojones to be an imperial. just too light in the flavor department bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 2, 2004 Bottle. Black beer with a think lacing of a tan head. Sweet aroma with a touch of coffee and some cherry and date tones. Slightly sour flavor and a thinner body. Otherwise roasted malts, some plum and cherry tones. Hides alcohol well and is easy drinking, but it just didn’t do it for me. LaChad (1375), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 23, 2004 Bottle. Incredibly thick black appearance, almost no head. Cherry-licoriche aroma and flavor. Roastiness abounds…a little too estery and the mouthfeel could be thicker for the style. “Lactic sour” is how JoeT describes this, and I agree. Not so great, especially considering the high standards that are set for this style by other beers.
