Commercial Description:
This is one beast of a beer you don’t want to mess with. We brew our Sac-Squatch Scotch ale using smoked peat malt to produce an extremely roasty, big bodied, high alcohol ale (7%abv). So tangle with this creature if you must, but don’t blame us if you feel a little furry in the morning. When putting hair on your chest just ain’t enough.

On tap. Clear reddish brown with a beige head. Nutty aroma. Medium body with a little hard roasted malt and a whiff of nuts. Perhaps also a vague touch of peaty smoke. Warming alcohol in the finish. 130709

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of yespr/Ungstrup. Pours a clear reddish brown with a beige head. Lightly tart fruit aroma. Medium body, burned and slightly ashy malt accents and an distinct underlying acidity. Subdued bitterness. Lightly infected. 5/3/5/2/9= 2.4 210309

Bottle, 7%. The aroma starts off a little farty, turning vinous and roasted. Clear dark brown colour. The flavour is quite roasted with some lactic notes. Farty roasted notes in the finish. The lactic aspect is a bad idea in this one, I think.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Nugget in Davis. Aroma is nutty, metallic, with some light roasted choco hints. A bit of peat, but it is subdued. Mostly transparent cola-colored body with a decent, strong off-yellow creamy head and nice lacing. Hmmm...this has a weird sweet flavoring with a husky, chewy roastiness in the middle. Some buttery diacetyl is present. Light, thin, astringency to finish. Not so good.

Clear dark brown with a fleeting tan head. Nutty malt aroma with sweet molasses. Medium body and smooth. Nice flavor is earthy sweet molasses with a dry roasty nuttiness. Not too bad.

Dark brown with a tan head. Malty-sweet smoky aroma with some peat. Strange bittersweet combo of flavors-not like any other Scotch ales I remember-but it worked for me. Lots of sweet caramel, chocolate and coffee flavors. Finishes kinda dry and smoky. The smoke & peat flavors hang around & take over the malt flavors. Different.

From tap at Pizza Port, San Clemente and from tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a lacing white head. Roasted malty aroma. Light fruity and malty dense flavour. Lingering fruity and malty finish. Simple yet tasty.

A different beer in many aspects. The aroma is sour, almost of spoiled dairy, but in a good way. Flavor is very chocolatey and of cappucino. Not as good as I’d hoped for, but satisfying nevertheless in its own odd way.
