Commercial Description:
This is one beast of a beer you don’t want to mess with. We brew our Sac-Squatch Scotch ale using smoked peat malt to produce an extremely roasty, big bodied, high alcohol ale (7%abv). So tangle with this creature if you must, but don’t blame us if you feel a little furry in the morning. When putting hair on your chest just ain’t enough.

22 oz bottle purchased at the SBC brewpub. Goofy name, goofy lable, and funky beer. The beer had a musty aroma and a roasted, mossy flavor, with aftertaste of toffee. Did I detect a note of raisins? Poured a dark brown color with not much of a head. A decent change of pace beer.

Bomber a gift from Bikesandbeer, because he knows I like Scotch Ales and its a local from where he grew up. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose is really a big old blech. Taste is a little sweet with some roastiness and some caramel. Overall this is a big old flop and a an even bigger drain pour.

This was okay. It was rather unusual with the range of flavours. I have had much much better examples of a scotch ale.

Bottle picked up on a road trip from Bev Mo. Pours a dark brown with nice red hues and a thin head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted nuts, and light peaty smoke. Chocolate dominates the flavor with secondary hints of faint salty smoke, and roasted nuts. Pretty smooth with a moderate carbonated bite. A light lingering roast and smoke rounds out the finish of this nicer than expected brew.

An old 22oz Bottle. Tasted blind. Old. Wax, flaming candles and dust. A little sourness. Pours brown, muddled with purple, and a rim of banana flash. Flavor is distinct in blueberry and chewy raspberry jam. Weird concoction of fruit, mineral, ash and candy. Old tasting, but not overly oxidized. A touch of roast and coffee. Apple-raspberry juice. In the Juicy-juice box style. Reduced. Dust. Holding carbonation. Apparently a Scotch Ale. Weird old caramels, but actually not that bad for the age. Thanks Steve!

A very deep brown color, small beige head. Roasted malt, sweet, molasses and an unusual funk.... must be the peat. A strange sweet, smoky, earthy vegetal flavor.....beets or parsnips come to mind. neither is a flavor I seek out in beer. Thin without much carbonation. I don’t mind a still beer, if it has the body to back it up, this doesn’t. I can’t see finishing this. I will save the last half of the bottle for use as a marinade.

~Pours into a dark blackish amber color with 1/2 inch off white head. ~Malty Nutty smell. Smells Good! ~Mild bitter sweet taste. Not a real strong flavour. The only ingredient that stands out would maybe be the malts. ~Palate is smooth and a bit heavy. Probably buy again as a single 22 oz. Nice mild Scoth Ale.
