| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Pour was reddish brown with a dull off-white head. Aroma is roasty with a little bit of fruit. Flavors are okay, but not great. Roasted malt, some sweetness, fruit, a little bit of strange bitterness, with little to no hops. Okay scotch, worth the try, bhensonb (4337), Woodland, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Smoky aroma, backed by a bit of hop (or so I thought). Dark brown color with beautiful ruby hilites. A whitish head that did not stay. Starts with a smoky malty flavor, accompanied by a slight sourness. Not much hop in the finish. The sour note takes the place of hop in balancing the sweetness. Maybe a bit of bitterness after awhile, but not a lot. Good, but I’d prefer a bit of hop to be noticeable. Comes a bit like a smoky porter. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 26, 2006 12 oz bottle. Brown pour with a decent head. The aroma on this was fantastic. Lots of Dark fruit and some alcohol. But the flavor killed it. Bitter in all the wrong places, and quite vegital. Did not enjoy this one. Bartzilla (443), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 25, 2006 Hmm. Hard to pin down what it is with this one that is either missing or in too much abundance. The smell is fresh, not much like what I get from the usual scotch ale. The taste is very malty and a bit smoky. Actually, the taste is alright. I was almost expecting it to be a little hotter from what I was smelling. The finish vanishes almost immediately, which is OK, I guess. A lot easier to drink that I had thought it would be, but since this is a scotch ale, I was expecting a bit more of a challenge. Not bad, though. Worth the $2.99 for a bomber. alexanderj (2269), Chino Hills, California, USA

Aroma of malts, peat and smoke. Flavor of sweet malt and and smokiness. Liked the flavor, more than the smell. Still not very enjoyable. Just something missing... | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 10, 2006 Bottle from Trader Joes; nose of a little caramel malt, chocolate, and some smoke; clear very dark brown with a tan ring of bubbles; flavor had a little smoke mixed with some weak maltiness, OK. but not up to good! Maybe a poor batch Trader Joes got cheap? I paid $.84 a bottle. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Man, this baby was full of peat moss flavor and smoky to boot. Loads of it I said.Taste had more than that, could not place it but it was almost chemical-like.Funky GG (1645), NorCal, California, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 17, 2006 This was pretty awful to be honest. Although the appearance and aroma had somethings cookin’ for it, the flavor of the beers was just awful. A decent aroma of malts, some chocolate, petey and just a hint of smoke was present. Appearance was a deep brown color, the look of a Coke with a huge off-white colored head. Mouthfeel was harsh and slightly thick. Flavor was astringent, alcohol and some weird combo of roastiness and meat marinade. Pretty awful.
