Big fluffy head sits atop a deep garnet offering. Toasted toffee on the aroma with some peat. Watery mouthfeel, kind of chalky flavor, with some toffee, slight maraschino and some bitter chocolate. The flavor doesn’t follow through on the nice aroma. MEH.

It’s okay. I know I’m going to catch some flak for this but the flavor reminds me of a banana power bar. Good mouth feel though.

Pours a dark mahogany brown with a thin off-white thin-lacing head. Tart, earthy, semi-sweet aroma has some light peat and dark fruits. Body starts with a semi-sweet earthy dark caramel maltiness balanced with some tart light citrus flavor. This probably isn’t supposed to be sour, but it’s not that bad.

12 oz bottle, via JCapriotti. Whoa! Huge gusher here as I unscrewed the cap. Had to get a second beer to drink while I waited for this one to pour. After it settled, I got a cloudy and hazy reddish body under a large head. Small fine chunks of folaties swirl about. Aroma is a little offensive off the bat. Beyond the toffee and roast there’s sort of a garbage juice background, maybe that’s the peat, but either way, I’m not digging it. Flavor isn’t as bad as the aroma would indicate though. A little roasty and a little chocolaty with lighter notes of the peated malt and light alcohol. Mouthfeel is rather thin and watery in texture despite it having alot of flavor. I guess all the carbnonation escaped with the pour because it’s really pertty minimal and quite soft. This actually turned out to be an OK beer, despite the initial impression. Not great, but it was drinkable.

Brown with no head. Roasty aroma with caramel malts and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is of roasted malts and bitter coffee. Strong tail lingers on for awhile.

Semi-dark clear brown pour. Thin, off-white sweet roasty and oily/sticky malt aroma, with some bourbon. Flavor also has some bourbon, with sweet caramelly/chocolatey malt. Some bright hops loitering in the background. Ineteresting drink, which does get a bit cloying.

oh, my yes! Full bodied is right. Better than some imperial stouts I’ve tasted! The smoky malt is awesome. I’m not usually impressed with many commercial descriptions that appear on the beer pages, but this one holds true. This is quite a bit darker than other Scotch ales I’ve had. Nice tight head and stout-like lacing. The flavor is nutty, malty and chocolate (but not too much). I’m particularly thankful there isn’t a great deal of hoppiness to this one, although the hops are evident. Yum!

12oz Bottle: Auburn mahogany color, dark brownish. Small head and some lacing. Nose of toasted cherry, tobacco, a bit of harsh smoke and some obligatory roast and chocolate notes. More nutty with notes of cocoa than simply chocolate though. Like sweet soy sauce. The flavor is better, with a crap ton of nutty roast that overwealms the palate with a light diacetyl note. The hops aren’t mixed in and stand out a bit, unbalancing the whole shebang. The finish is odd with a sweet/salty/sour/bitter thing going on. Decent enough at first but doesn’t deliver.
