Cask@Derby Winter Beer Festival, 2008. Black beer with a red tinge. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is lighty roasted and weakly coffee. Overall an average roasted beer.

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Black with red hue, tan head. This is on the dark side of a normal mild range, almost a stout. Heavily roasted malts with a coffee like flavour, husky and somewhat sweet. Bitter on the finish, more challenging than many milds but decent all the same.

Three swigs of Pa Jenner’s at the brewery. Smooth, sourish, some burnt cocoa roasty character. Filthy headed, creamy and foaming steadily for an age after the pull. Light and easy, but dwarfed by its hoppier brothers.

Handpulled at the wood cottage in Reditich. This mild is truely magnificent to watch settle. It looks smooth, chocolate / dark amber in colour, and the flow of this mild setting just makes me want to not wait and take a sip before it’s finished. Full of chocolate and caramel flavouring. My opinion is I would only be able to handle a few of these milds before deciding that lunch time had past and to carry on drinking is the only answer :-) The head on this ale too is something which impressed me. Overall appearance of this drink would make anyone try a mild!!

Dark amber, small foamy head which goes quickly. Chocolate smell, with overtones of caramel, toffee and bitter hops. Complex. Not bad but a little sweet for me.
