Aroma is quite dusty, some spices - clove definitely, and not much hop presence. Flavor is nice and malty, the alcohol is well balanced, still fairly sweet, and the hops are basically gone save for some bitterness on the finish. A decent beer that seems to have aged predictably but not at all poorly.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Tasted 11/30/09. 12oz bottle. Filtered with an orange ruby hue. Finger width of cavernous off-white head. Heady aromas of sweet bready malts. Faint earthy spice. Medium bodied with a very sweet malt palate. Yep, definitely sweet! Big berry esters and citrus notes throughout. Nice sipper. Once the sweetness subsides, the hops start to shine. Definite dichotomy. And both really stand up. This really has a pleasant complexity. Bready malts and earthy hops. Good carbonation. Solid brew! BrewingFan (77), Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Pours dark reddish amber with a nice layer of head. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, nuts, and spruce. Medium body, creamy, and full of malt with some warming alcohol. Nice warm up on a cold day. Overall it is a very well done strong ale, wish more breweries would make them. DaSilky1 (1989), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Updated: Nov 27, 2009Bottle from SAggieTits97: Pours a clear seared sienna, head but a halo. Nose of Christmas cookies, fresh pine tree, and caramel apple. Tastes of spices, caramel, and light pine. full almost syrupy yet wet feeling body..tastes pretty alcoholic and aggressive hopping probably more than adequate...alcohol is not hidden. at all. I don’t give a fuck what half these raters say...It’s almost peppery, like cheap spirits...a bit harsh, i must say. Just seems rigid and not something I could drink and relax with...which is the whole purpose of a Christmas ale, in my opinion. Hopper (311), San Antonio, Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Woodsy pine aroma with some cedar mixed in... COOL! Crystal clear amber copper in color. Sweet malt flavor with a spicy aftertaste like nutmeg & cinnamon. Overall, this is a complex brew but very drinkable at the same time... great! DewBrewer (270), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 13, 2009 On cask at the Dig Pub in Cedar Park. Nice big malt bomb! Just a bit of carbonation but it goes down way too easy given the ABV. Reminded me of cask ale in London. Yum. BückDich (4848), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2009 Bottle: Pours a nice orange mahogany color with a thin white head. The nose is spicy and sweet with some herbal hop character and a caramel/raisin malty note. The flavor is balanced, a light tartness in the tail and a little yeasty candy note. Not too big of a body for the sweetness involved. More herbal hops in the tail. Very well conceived winter strong ale.
