Commercial Description:
Reserve No. 2: Abbey American Quadruppel Cases Made: 787 Date Brewed: April 26, 2006 Date Bottled: July 18, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.093 Final Gravity: 1.022 Alcohol: 9.3% ABV Description: This big beer goes beyond existing styles. It is best described as an Abbey American quadruppel. It was brewed with a combination of Maris Otter, Munich, Victory and Special B malts. This beer is also the first time we have used an adjunct, in this case brown sugar, in the brewkettle. It is hopped with Perle, Liberty and Saaz, going for a pleasant, balancing but not overly aggressive bitter. We then split the wort from the kettle into 2 fermenters, pitching one with an American Ale yeast and the other with a Belgian Trappist yeast. Near the end of fermentation, the tanks were combined to finish out. The beer was conditioned for 12 weeks and then packaged unfiltered. This beer has a nose of malt, fruit and spice with a light touch of hops. The taste is a combination of malt with a warming alcoholic feel, lots of fruit, light clove and spice and a very pleasant hop bitter. While this beer is ready to be enjoyed immediately, it should develop well in the bottle over time.

Thanks to TBS for the bottle. Thanks Matt. Pours rusty orange with a small white ring around the glass. Aroma is fruit, caramel, butterscotch and some alcohol. Definitely oxidized, but not in a completely terrible way. Flavor is a bit thin, but still decent. Wish I had this beer fresh.

Pours ruddy brown with a thin layer of foam. Nose and flavor are caramel , toffee, dried fruit and some earthiness. Creamy mouthfeel.

Sample at December 12, 2008 Beer Club meeting. Pulled from WhipIn cellar, aged 29 months. This baby ages well! Do not remember much to describe this since it was my 12th sample, but can tell you this... it was smooth, well-balanced, and oh so yummy. Too bad I offered to share it with the club. At least I have one more bottle waiting for me in the cellar.

Bottle thanks to BMan1113VR via captaincougar. Looks: Dark copper with a small tope head. Nose: Booze, brandy, salt, paper, candied crystalized dates, very nice. Taste: This is concentrated and layered, the multiple tiered flavors cascade on the palate. I get rum cake, soy sauce, booze, malt. Mouthfeel: Mouthcoating and warming. Pours the yeast and you get a nice nutty hazel nut taste with (surprise) some yeast.

Bottle thanks to captaincougar. Drinking quite well right now. Pours with a small, off-white head that goes. Murky deep amber-brown body. Aroma is very boozy with brandy, plums, calvados, light soy, some slight carbonation and kirshwasser. Taste is malty and boozy with dark fruits, yeast, rum and biscuts. Syrupy mouthfeel, light bubbles, but quite thin for a quad.

Thanks to DocBrass on BA for this one. Taken from tasting notes. Pours bright orange with little head. Smell is fruity, slight cardboard, belgian yeast. Flavor is much of the same with a dominating fruity taste and a bit more of the cardboard/oxidation. The palate was pretty dissapointing; kind of flat already only after two years and kind of watery.

Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to OldStyleCubFan for sharing! I’d like to have tried this beer when fresh, that’s for sure. The nose was strong fruity malts with some hints of smoke and peat in there that made me think this one was a strong Scotch ale masking as a quad. Typically warming malts emerged the deeper into it I got, but there was something slightly tart about this one, and I found the body to be too thin.
