Commercial Description:
Reserve No. 2: Abbey American Quadruppel Cases Made: 787 Date Brewed: April 26, 2006 Date Bottled: July 18, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.093 Final Gravity: 1.022 Alcohol: 9.3% ABV Description: This big beer goes beyond existing styles. It is best described as an Abbey American quadruppel. It was brewed with a combination of Maris Otter, Munich, Victory and Special B malts. This beer is also the first time we have used an adjunct, in this case brown sugar, in the brewkettle. It is hopped with Perle, Liberty and Saaz, going for a pleasant, balancing but not overly aggressive bitter. We then split the wort from the kettle into 2 fermenters, pitching one with an American Ale yeast and the other with a Belgian Trappist yeast. Near the end of fermentation, the tanks were combined to finish out. The beer was conditioned for 12 weeks and then packaged unfiltered. This beer has a nose of malt, fruit and spice with a light touch of hops. The taste is a combination of malt with a warming alcoholic feel, lots of fruit, light clove and spice and a very pleasant hop bitter. While this beer is ready to be enjoyed immediately, it should develop well in the bottle over time.

Pours a translucent solid copper with a thin orange head. The nose is lightly earthy, some belgian, warm, grainy, fruity. The flavor is lightly warm, fruity, a bit oxidized, basement malty taste. Warm palate. Age probably hasn’t done this well.

12 oz from the original Saint Arnold search and buy day way back when! Hazy dark gold. Hoppy nose, spices, funkiness in the taste. A bit cold. A strange color for a quad I thought. More like an IPA rather than a quad. I’ve got 2 more and I think they need to be drank sooner than later. This one was best fresh and did not review it then.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear copper amber with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Sweet bready Belgian yeasty aroma has a touch of clove and honey along with a hint of brett. Body starts with some sweet caramel malt and light fruits, but a touch of soapy earthy bittering character toward the finish that might be a product of brett. A nice attempt and the yeast character seems fairly authentic, but I’d prefer a slightly sweeter doughy finish.

Thanks to Stall for this one! Slightly hazy amber/brown pour with a small off white head and some spotty lacing. Dark dried fruits on the nose. Malts, filbert nuts and alcohol for taste!.. Glad I got to try this one!

5-25-08 bottle thanks to MiguelMandingo
Semi clear amber with no head. Smell is nice mild malt with a hint of fruit. Flavor has a strange sweetness to it. Very sweet and pretty good. Mouthfeel is thin however and lacking in carbonation. Very mild overall, not bold or big by any means. It may have a touch of oxidation on this one.

Bottle (aged 2 years). Sweet light caramel nose, very mild. Cloudy copper with no head or carbonation. Good fruit character, light oxidation, caramel and figs with a slightly sour finish.

Bottle in trade from MiguelMandingo. Thanks man.
Pours orange to amber with a semi clear body. Smell is fruity with raisin bread as well. Taste is the same with a strong raisin bread flavor and light belgian yeasty character. Slightly bitter, and perhaps a bit nuttiness too. Not bad.
