Commercial Description:
Reserve No. 2: Abbey American Quadruppel Cases Made: 787 Date Brewed: April 26, 2006 Date Bottled: July 18, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.093 Final Gravity: 1.022 Alcohol: 9.3% ABV Description: This big beer goes beyond existing styles. It is best described as an Abbey American quadruppel. It was brewed with a combination of Maris Otter, Munich, Victory and Special B malts. This beer is also the first time we have used an adjunct, in this case brown sugar, in the brewkettle. It is hopped with Perle, Liberty and Saaz, going for a pleasant, balancing but not overly aggressive bitter. We then split the wort from the kettle into 2 fermenters, pitching one with an American Ale yeast and the other with a Belgian Trappist yeast. Near the end of fermentation, the tanks were combined to finish out. The beer was conditioned for 12 weeks and then packaged unfiltered. This beer has a nose of malt, fruit and spice with a light touch of hops. The taste is a combination of malt with a warming alcoholic feel, lots of fruit, light clove and spice and a very pleasant hop bitter. While this beer is ready to be enjoyed immediately, it should develop well in the bottle over time.

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, yet another great tasting @ Henrik´s] Yet another of my favorite style and this is # 17. Small off-white head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework to be observed. Hazy golden almost amber like color. Aroma was recognizable as Quadruppel with heavy notes of dried fruit, raisins in particular, caramel, surprising for the style there as underlying floral notes. Moderated sweet fruity flavor with light and pleasant bitter notes of hops. Lovely complex and sweet finish that lingers. 18-09-2007

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy amber to brown with a lacing light brown head. Sharp hoppy, yeasty and spiced aroma. Sweet caramel malty flavour with a distinct yeasty spice note. Spiced finish. A clear waste on my tastebuds.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy, amber golden with an off-white head. Fat, malty, fruity and alcoholic nose. Very full in body, notes of overripe fruit, yeast and alcohol. Interesting and quite complex. 180907

Cloudy amber color. Good malty aroma, a bit fruity, mellow. Strong mouthfeel; a lot of sweet malt, but also sweet caramel flavor, and a touch of sweet liquorice. Correct bitterness, and quite warming at the end; the final is of course sweet as well. Powerful.

Bottle, thanks mj. Classic cloudy amber with a white fading head. Malty, caramel-covered apple-like nose. Flavor is very sweet with notes of candy-covered apples, toffee, brown sugar, pear, ample hops/pine and ends with a noticeable alcohol-like finish. Full, round and creamy with subtle carbonation. Would have preferred it less sweet and more dry but overall, pretty solid.

12oz bottle, from fly. Rusty red colored body, about 30% opaque. Nose of somewhat aged hops, old oranges, old grapes, and some caramel and Belgian candy sugar. Started out thinking this was the double IPA but then some candy sugar came up, and finally someone confirmed that this was the Quad. Strange. Nose also has some hoppy scotch scents and high alcohol noticed. Biting alcohol tasted, with some aged old fruit and sharp, tingly malts. Some hay, some light yeast apparency, and some sweet and light candy sugar. Hot and warming down the throat at times. Overall I liked it, found it free of any glaring defects other than a little bit of oxidation, but as a quad it’s not exactly to style.

12oz bottle, courtesy of mj. Thanks, Mike! Pours a murky, yellowish-orange color; minimal off-white head. Plenty of esters and candy sugars and dried fruit in the aroma; dense, chewy. Creamy, toasty mouthfeel: plenty of esters and vanilla; chewy malt presence with a solid show of warming alcohol; reasonable enough. Lengthy, candy sugar and estery finish; slightly hot.

(12oz bottle, thanks mj) Small beige head with murky amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, grapefruit, raisin, some alcohol astringency. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, grapefruit, some pine, raisin, stewed peach. Medium-full body. Good stuff, but a Quad?!
