Commercial Description:
Reserve No. 2: Abbey American Quadruppel Cases Made: 787 Date Brewed: April 26, 2006 Date Bottled: July 18, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.093 Final Gravity: 1.022 Alcohol: 9.3% ABV Description: This big beer goes beyond existing styles. It is best described as an Abbey American quadruppel. It was brewed with a combination of Maris Otter, Munich, Victory and Special B malts. This beer is also the first time we have used an adjunct, in this case brown sugar, in the brewkettle. It is hopped with Perle, Liberty and Saaz, going for a pleasant, balancing but not overly aggressive bitter. We then split the wort from the kettle into 2 fermenters, pitching one with an American Ale yeast and the other with a Belgian Trappist yeast. Near the end of fermentation, the tanks were combined to finish out. The beer was conditioned for 12 weeks and then packaged unfiltered. This beer has a nose of malt, fruit and spice with a light touch of hops. The taste is a combination of malt with a warming alcoholic feel, lots of fruit, light clove and spice and a very pleasant hop bitter. While this beer is ready to be enjoyed immediately, it should develop well in the bottle over time.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin rim of beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, prunes and more as well as a light touch of alcohol. Thanks Boboski.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy, amber golden with an off-white head. Fat, malty, fruity and alcoholic nose. Very full in body, notes of overripe fruit, yeast and alcohol. Interesting and quite complex. 180907

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy amber to brown with a lacing light brown head. Sharp hoppy, yeasty and spiced aroma. Sweet caramel malty flavour with a distinct yeasty spice note. Spiced finish. A clear waste on my tastebuds.

Cloudy amber color. Good malty aroma, a bit fruity, mellow. Strong mouthfeel; a lot of sweet malt, but also sweet caramel flavor, and a touch of sweet liquorice. Correct bitterness, and quite warming at the end; the final is of course sweet as well. Powerful.

(12oz bottle, thanks mj) Small beige head with murky amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, grapefruit, raisin, some alcohol astringency. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, grapefruit, some pine, raisin, stewed peach. Medium-full body. Good stuff, but a Quad?!

(Bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy dark amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee, toasted malt, nuts, cocoa, pine, dark fruit, and wood. Flavor of nuts, light dark fruits, mild floral hops, and cocoa. This one certainly needs some additional aging.

12oz bottle shared courtesy of weeare138 (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy amberish color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruitiness, citrus, caramel, and some spices. Tastes follow suit.
