Commercial Description:
Reserve No. 2: Abbey American Quadruppel Cases Made: 787 Date Brewed: April 26, 2006 Date Bottled: July 18, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.093 Final Gravity: 1.022 Alcohol: 9.3% ABV Description: This big beer goes beyond existing styles. It is best described as an Abbey American quadruppel. It was brewed with a combination of Maris Otter, Munich, Victory and Special B malts. This beer is also the first time we have used an adjunct, in this case brown sugar, in the brewkettle. It is hopped with Perle, Liberty and Saaz, going for a pleasant, balancing but not overly aggressive bitter. We then split the wort from the kettle into 2 fermenters, pitching one with an American Ale yeast and the other with a Belgian Trappist yeast. Near the end of fermentation, the tanks were combined to finish out. The beer was conditioned for 12 weeks and then packaged unfiltered. This beer has a nose of malt, fruit and spice with a light touch of hops. The taste is a combination of malt with a warming alcoholic feel, lots of fruit, light clove and spice and a very pleasant hop bitter. While this beer is ready to be enjoyed immediately, it should develop well in the bottle over time.

Ruby amber body with a great creamy head. Sticks around for a while eventually clinging to the rime. nose is bready with a healthy alcohol. Strong honey carmel notes with a roast backbone (crystal 80L taste). Spice seems to be nutmeg with a classic beligium bubblegum note. Flavour is....divine..... roast with a healthy bitterness. Fairly chewey with a yeasty (before dumping in the dregs) honey sweet. There is some rum rasin here also. The spices and sweetness blend well. The use of different yeasts can be seen, creating a beer truely worthy of the name divine.

Clear mahogony color. Head was fleeting and now just sticking to the sides. The nose is one of those rare ones that makes me just wanna sit and sniff for hours- sublime. First fews sips have a pronounced alcohol bite, but no heat. This will surely fade with age. The problem is, the last time I had something this good, I couldn’t keep my hands off of them.

Bottle - Pour is deep copper with a scant tan disappearing head. Nose is fruity and spicey. Medium body, softly carbinated. The flavor starts sweet, is spicey in the middle, and finishes dry. I can certainly tell it was brewed with two yeast strains. It has the typical Abt/Quadrupel flavor, but the American ale yeast comes through nicely as well. This stuff is truely "Divine".

and again, the rush and madness of the divine reserves!...well, i tracked down a case, yes a case, and it put me back $70..ya, but is it worth it?......well, yes and yes and yes! Smooth as silk..has a beutiful bitterness in there too, does this actually have 9.3 in it, very well balanced and tasty...good as hell now, will try my hardest to age some...i honestly think this may be my most favourite abbey beer ever! ..well, if i can afford some roch, la trappe+reverand for a head2head, then we’ll see, but this stuff is GOLD!

2 months old....damn, sweet delicous ...amazing....complex and fruity...i love this beer and i hope quad lovers get to try this!!

Simply put this is a great beer! yet is has legs to be an even better beer for those into cellering. Very rich with Saint Anrold yeast profile (thier version of the American Ale) with a twist of Trappist, very nice. Also unusal for an American Micro to condition this length & I must say well worrth the time spent as it is very drinkable right off the shelf. For all you Saint Arnold drinkers think of Private Reserve #2 as Saint Arnold himself on steriods, this is serious buisness for those who take their beer SERIOUS!!!!!!

Big thanks to fly for this one. Pours hazy deep copper-orangy with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of bready caramel malt, big candi sugar, hops, gingerbread, nutmeg, banana. Very complex aroma. Tastes caramel malty up front, with a big funky spicy note, and some fruity and yeasty florals, coupled with a touch of banana. Hefty, very complex palate that is very well balanced and just dripping with aroma, flavor, and originality. I am very thankful that fly sent me 2 bottles of this, one of the best beers I’ve had this year!

Although Im not a big fan of the style I must say this is a damn good brew. Pours deep copper with ever fading head that leaves small lacing around glass. Aroma is somethiing else spice, cinnamon, and slight nutmeg. Somewhat too sweet for my taste, yet rounds into a nice balance. Could stand a little aging but what the hell drink up!!
