Commercial Description:
This will be our final release in the Divine Reserve series for this year. No. 3 is an imperial or double IPA meaning that it is higher in alcohol and hoppier than a regular IPA. The taste of this beer is initially malt with honey notes (from honey, no less) versus spicy hop bitterness with the hops eventually winning. In fact, you will notice that the bitter will remain with you well after each sip. This is a beer that should mellow with age. While this beer is recommended primarily for the hopheads of the world, the bitter of this beer is surprisingly pleasant for being so, well, huge. That may be attributed in a large part to our water quality. Ah, the things reverse osmosis lets you do. Here is some info on the beer: Cases Made: 542 Date Brewed: July 17, 2006 Date Bottled: September 21, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.082 Final Gravity: 1.010 Alcohol: 9.5% ABV Malts: Maris Otter, Wheat, Caravienne, Carapils and Dark Crystal Other Sugars: Honey, Molasses Hops: Chinook, Centennial, Ahtenum, Cascades For those of you that don't remember, this recipe was inspired by David Majoras' winning entry in the 2006 Big Batch Brew Bash competition. We use the term "inspired by" because when scaling up a recipe, many changes, some drastic, are always made. We hope you enjoy this beer! We also hope you are one of the lucky ones that finds some of this beer!

bottle, thanks to lumpy via ilovedarkbeer, cloudy orange color with no head aroma is very malty reminiscent of a BW, hoppish raisiny flavor with some orange peel and metallic oxidation

Split bottle with Bman1113VR (thanks). Nice darkish brown color. Smells of malts, with little bit of hops, caramel notes and butterscotch. Decent mouth feel, not too watery. Faded hops with pleasant astringent taste on the back end.

Bottle, big thanks to Lumpy (ilovedarkbeer has another one from him to bring to the Thursday tastings). Pours with a small, off-white head over a hazed orange-amber body. Aroma is faded hops, brown sugar, molasses, marmalade, and currants. Taste is malty with faded hops, butter scotch, dark fruits, yeast and jam. For a double IPA this thing is holding up well. syrupy mouthfeel, light bubbles.

12 oz bottle from Walt! Thanks again! Nose is caramel, golden raisin fruitiness, toffee, and some breadiness. Hazy copper with a small light beige head. Flavor is still bitter with some toffee and light fruity notes. Finish is bitter with some alcohol warmth. an "aging well" DIPA! Wish I had some fresh, must have been nice and bitter!

Lightly foggy amber, very thin white head. Aroma is malty, toffee, light alcohol, caramel, crystal malts. Taste is a light hoppiness, followed by caramel, toffee, faint chocolate, light alcohol. No longer an IIPA, tastes like a American or European Strong Lager.

12oz bottle thanks to bleeng. hoping this was kept in the fridge as it is a few years old.....pours a a medium amber brown with a medium off-white head....aroma is more of an aged barleywine with biscuity malt, somewhat oxidized, with sweet caramel notes....flavors were sweet engulfed with sacharine papery malt with a touch of bitterniss in the finish. carbonation on the lower end. not that great unfortunately.

12oz bottle from biz82, thank you Josh. Dark gold pour with a white head. Smells a little past its prime as expected, brother said it smelled like a dirty toilet, lol. Slightly sweet taste, smooth and a little citrusy.
