Commercial Description:
This will be our final release in the Divine Reserve series for this year. No. 3 is an imperial or double IPA meaning that it is higher in alcohol and hoppier than a regular IPA. The taste of this beer is initially malt with honey notes (from honey, no less) versus spicy hop bitterness with the hops eventually winning. In fact, you will notice that the bitter will remain with you well after each sip. This is a beer that should mellow with age. While this beer is recommended primarily for the hopheads of the world, the bitter of this beer is surprisingly pleasant for being so, well, huge. That may be attributed in a large part to our water quality. Ah, the things reverse osmosis lets you do. Here is some info on the beer: Cases Made: 542 Date Brewed: July 17, 2006 Date Bottled: September 21, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.082 Final Gravity: 1.010 Alcohol: 9.5% ABV Malts: Maris Otter, Wheat, Caravienne, Carapils and Dark Crystal Other Sugars: Honey, Molasses Hops: Chinook, Centennial, Ahtenum, Cascades For those of you that don't remember, this recipe was inspired by David Majoras' winning entry in the 2006 Big Batch Brew Bash competition. We use the term "inspired by" because when scaling up a recipe, many changes, some drastic, are always made. We hope you enjoy this beer! We also hope you are one of the lucky ones that finds some of this beer!

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, my bottle from SecretSanta06. Poured very hazy orange with a smalish frothy off-white diminishing head. Fairly pungent resiny hop aroma, tons of sweet citrus fruit malt, quite herbal, boozy and strangely lactic ... a little funky on warming. Taste is somewhat resiny but more generically hop-bitter than anything, bitter enough to push the solid malt profile into the background, even mute the strong alcohol; somewhat herbal in the long bitter - pretty one-dimensional, ultimate. Solid I2PA body, very bitter and alcoholic palate, bitter back-tongue-coating aftertaste - not awesome - thanks again to Lutheran!!

Cloudy orange colour with a white head. Malty, light caramel sweet aroma with a nice hoppy fruity note. Hoppy fruity flavor with a solid pine bitter note and a dry finish.

12 oz bottle. Clear, peachy brown with a thin, splotchy tan head. Clouds up with the last pour. Caramel honey, orange and cherry. Medicinal and oily with woody orange pith. Lemon zest and bitter toffee emerge with rubbing alcohol. Tingly with a nice mouth buzz. Long hop finish. Too much for me.

Holy smokes, I poured this and was expecting a Belgian, guess I don’t have the series memorized. After the appearance made my face drop, the aroma quickly tipped me off on my ignorance. Oh well, here’s to Saint Arnold in a Chimay glass! Orange pour with some reddish-orange hues and a thin head covering. Retention was weak. Lacing was minimal. The aroma was strong resinous hops, some citrus rinds. The flavor was oranges, orange rinds, light melons, earthy malt notes, and lots o’ pine in the finish. Sticky mouthfeel, although not sweet and sticky, finishes rather bitter. A nicely done dIPA, enjoyable, on the mark, but not outstanding. Thanks to Bert for hooking me up with this one!

Slightly cloudy copper color, scant off-white layer of foam. Not much hops on the nose, mostly sweet malt. The mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected. Good amount of carbonation. Mildy hoppy flavor, again mostly sweetness. Some hop bitterness and alcohol in the finish.
