Commercial Description:
This is a Wee Heavy that one of our brewers has been working on for a couple of years and the final results are well worth the wait. The color is deep ruby on its way to black with bright clarity (especially considering it is unfiltered) and a thick, tan head. It has a nose of Irish coffee with hints of peat. The body is sweet and creamy--not thin, not heavy. Almost refreshing, if a beer this big can be described as such. Caramel malt, smoke, coffee and orange come in and out of focus several times as the beer moves across the palate, then it finishes with a light spiciness. We again used our St. Arnold yeast which added a nice layer of complexity to this already multifaceted beer. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer.

Murky consistency of a ruby-brown color. No head, and no movement on the surface. Mild bonfire smoke on the nose. Some chocolate, Merlot, and prunes. Dry and a little tired. Flavor of copper with rubbery green apple skins. Tangy molasses and caramel with some very quiet nuttiness. Overly sweet for the most part, so much so that it’s almost gritty. The alcohol, though, is sufficiently masked. Favorably rich. With a bit more smoke and less sugar it really would be a first-rate example. Thanks for sharing, Mike!

Bottle shared by Jason. Dark brown body under a dense tan head. Smoky graham cracker and dense stewed raisin aroma - sort of a sweet stout aroma. The flavor kicks out a lot of alcohol along with chocolate graham cracker and bitter hops.

Bottle from Bu11zeye. Pourish a dark brown with a foamy cap. Mellow, subtle, refined malt aroma, big on complex malts, wheat, peat, bread. Rich, malty flavor, lots of lovely wheaty malts, a very light taste. Super thick in the mouth especially for how light it tastes. Incredibly quaffable. After the massive disappointment that was DR #2, this is quite good.

HUGE nose - you first notice the roasted malt then you can pick out some dark fruit scents, especially fig/raisin. The smell translates into the flavor, which is surprisingly complex - malts, fruits and coffee flavors are all present. Has a long, lingering finish that is very welcome. This is an outstanding beer. Too bad it is local and limited production, its a shame everyone can’t enjoy this wonderful beer. Next time I get back to Grapevine Markets I will get my limit (2 6-packs) and put one away for aging. Wonderful.
