Commercial Description:
This is a Wee Heavy that one of our brewers has been working on for a couple of years and the final results are well worth the wait. The color is deep ruby on its way to black with bright clarity (especially considering it is unfiltered) and a thick, tan head. It has a nose of Irish coffee with hints of peat. The body is sweet and creamy--not thin, not heavy. Almost refreshing, if a beer this big can be described as such. Caramel malt, smoke, coffee and orange come in and out of focus several times as the beer moves across the palate, then it finishes with a light spiciness. We again used our St. Arnold yeast which added a nice layer of complexity to this already multifaceted beer. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer.

Deep red wine/brown dark body with a medium to thin ring of bubbles. Nose-dry trees, resin, dusty, raisin, alcohol, green grapes. Taste-fig, molasses, medium alcohol, raisin, light metal, great slow burn alcohol aftertaste, dark fruits, unsweet apple, pine, has a certain flavor that I can only describe as “green” but I really like it. Hands down the best of the SADR series to date.

Much props to KAggie97 for this great one. Very dark, dirty brown pour with little thin tan head. Nose is great...peat, chocolate, coffee and a bit of licorace. Taste is really fantastic, as far as the Divine’s have gone...smokey peat, caramel malt, and chocolate. Some dark fruits mixed in for an added bonus. This is the beer I was hoping the Divine’s would turn out to be...very nice.

Pours a mostly clear dark brown, with a fairly small head. Wonderful nose of light smoke, chocolate, lactose (like a mlik stout), and coffee. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, wood, brown sugar. Becomes smokier and milkier going down. Finishes with a peat-smoked caramel roast taste, and a very light bitterness, but something about it just seems too cloying and buttery. Cloying and sweet work, but that’s not what this is and it seems a little off. Not the world’s most pleasant aftertaste IMO. Good texture to this beer, not too thick or thin, and it’s nice and creamy. Flavors are blended well, and I think the idea of a smokey weeheavy is freakin’ brilliant, but I just am not fond of the way the finish lingers.

Bottle from my friend Brian. Pours deep velvety brown with a cola like tan head. Aroma of maple syrup, coffee, and some faint smoked hickory. Mouthfeel is medium but with a slightly annoying fizzy texture. Initial flavor of caramel and dark fruit (raisen and fig) that transitions to a strong smoked peat middle. Finish is dry, a tad thin, with some alcohol peeking through. There is a slight harshness before it goes down. Finish reminds me of a traditional baltic porter, but with smoke.

(12oz Bottle): Dark color, very dark red. Small off-white head diminishing. Very malty aroma. Maybe grape. Kind of weak. Chocolate aftertaste. Not very fizzy, not too thick, porterish. Good taste, not too thick. But not very strong a flavor.

Dark reddish purple color with a pretty small head. Curious dubbel-esque aroma, with a light cocoa, light coffee and equally light phenol, mixed with a stronger melanoidin, and a very small touch of smoky peat. Flavor is more smoky, and quite pleasing, being fuller and more straightforward than the murky nose. There’s a caramel sweetness behind the smoke, contributing to a medium body. Finish is semi-dry with a lingering cigar-like burnt tobacco aftertaste. Seems to become a bit cloying, lacks some complexity.

Very dark reddish brown pour. Scant light tan head that quickly fades. Nose is smoky earthiness, some peat, and sweet maltiness. Medium bodied palate with moderate carbonation. Flavor has a nice bit of smokiness, followed by toffee, with a fairly sweet finish. Nice Scotch Ale.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye: Pours a dark mahogany with a spotty, wispy-lacing light tan head. Has a nice, huge smoky peaty dark caramel malty nose. Starts with a full, sweet caramel malty body, well-balanced with slightly drier toasty, earthy smoke toward a slightly milk chocolatey finish. One of the best Scotch ales I’ve ever had.
