Commercial Description:
This is a Wee Heavy that one of our brewers has been working on for a couple of years and the final results are well worth the wait. The color is deep ruby on its way to black with bright clarity (especially considering it is unfiltered) and a thick, tan head. It has a nose of Irish coffee with hints of peat. The body is sweet and creamy--not thin, not heavy. Almost refreshing, if a beer this big can be described as such. Caramel malt, smoke, coffee and orange come in and out of focus several times as the beer moves across the palate, then it finishes with a light spiciness. We again used our St. Arnold yeast which added a nice layer of complexity to this already multifaceted beer. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer.

12oz via trade with TheBeerSommilier a ways back. During my cellar/overflow clean up I thought it was about time to pop this little retired Texan Scotch Ale. Pours rich brownish black with a tan ring. Nose is sweet and rich with hints of peat. Taste is tasty matly with a bitter smokey roasty flavor. Pretty tasty scotch ale!

12oz bottle courtesy of KAggie97, poured into a snifter. Pours a clear ruby color out of the bottle and settles in very dark in the glass, a deep mahogany with light coming through the edges. The head is a one-inch creamy tan cap that recedes slowly and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is fairly subdued to start with roasted malts and caramel sweetness coming through first. I’m also getting a pretty noticeable smoke presence which complements the sweetness well in the nose. The taste is a more robust version of the aroma. There seems to be a bit more sweetness with the caramel malts showing through a little more than the smoke initially. The is a sweet sugary cola-like taste that seems to dominate in the middle, maybe with some raisins and other dark fruits. The smoke comes back in the finish and lends to a slightly dry aftertaste on the palate. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and very smooth. This is another solid, if not spectacular, brew from Saint Arnold. It’s one of the more drinkable Scotch ales I’ve had in recent memory and while it’s probably not in the top tier of the style, I’d recommend it highly.

Bottled. A hazy deep red beer with a rim of beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of whisky - actually very sweet. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of whiskey as well as medium notes of wood, caramel, dried fruits, figs, prunes, apricot, and wood, leading to a dry finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy compliments of Lumpy. Pours a dark brown with red hues and nice beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some nuttiness, some spice, and some alcohol. Flavor is exactly the same and semi sweet with some dark fruits and brown sugar. Mouth feel is heavy body with low-medium carbonation. Over all, good shit!

Pours dark maroon to brown with a short lived beige head. Smell is chocolate, caramel and light peaty smokiness. Taste is rich, and malty but with a lightly dry finish and notes of chocolate, cocoa powder, cream, tootsie rolls, and peaty smokiness. Medium to full body with a bit of a syrupy viscosity and soft carbonation. Actually one of the better beers of this style that I’ve had, for sure, and I would have been curious to have tried this fresh as well. Alcohol is well hidden at this point in its life, and Very solid beer for a style I don’t typically care much for.

12oz bottle from ucusty - thanks, David! Couple years on this bad boy, I think. Nice glowing copper pour, not much carbonation left. Strongly fruity smell, like a revved up winter warmer. Some toffee and malts in there too, but a pert and lively aroma as compared to a peaty wee heavy. Body is thin. I feel that the beer could benefit from more hops and smoke (although it may have possessed these qualities when fresh) but it’s held up decently nonetheless. Warming and enjoyable.
