Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

12 oz bottle: poured dark dark brown with an orange tinted brown head. Coffee and choclate dominate the nose. Light vanila and nuts. Sourness on my tongue initially followed by some sweetness. Medium body with a bit of spritziness to it. Mild metallic aftertaste. The finish killed it for me.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a dark tan head that shoots up and settles slow. Nose of chocolate, vanilla and molasses. Thick body with a hint of carb. Taste is espresso with a touch of plum sweetness. Dries with spinach and alcohol.

Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks Joey. Poured an opaque black color with a brown-orange head. Surprisingly, yeasty bread dough dominated the aroma according to my nose. There were also goodly whiffs of molasses, milk chocolate, and alcohol. Sweet with a bit of warming alcohol on the tongue. Full bodied and velvety with assertive roasty malt flavor that mingled nicely with the sugars. Chocolate, white bread, and alcohol rounded out the flavor profile. Very good beer.

Thanks to jasonmech77 for the bottle. Pours near black with a smallish head. Rich aroma of coffee, chocolate, milk/cream, plums and liquorice. A little soy. Taste was extremely rich and almost tangy. Heavy mouthfeel, full body. No hint of alcohol.

12 oz. bottle via trade - Pours a thick black color with a one finger thick tan head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma is doughy, roasted malt, faint dark esters, faint vanilla, light chocolate, and light molasses. Flavors much of the same. Mouth feel is slightly dry. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks to whoever sent this.

Pours a deep brown almost black, with a 1" foamy mocha head. Spotty lacing. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, roasty malt, and dark esters. Flavors of coffee, light chocolate, roasty malts, very light vanilla, and some dark esters. Lighter body than most stouts, with a dry palate feel. You can feel the alcohol going down. Good beer.

bottle. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, bourbon, chocolate, malt, molasses. Nice average sized tan head that mostly diminished and left decent lace. Dark black/ruby hue. Flavor is coffee, port, and vanilla oak. Palate is medium bodied and smooth. Very good imp stout, quite surprising.

12oz bottle. Thanks again to badbeer for this brew. Pours a dark dark brown/black with a decent sized brown head. Smells smokey, roasty, toasty, malty with alcohol. Tastes like raisins up front with toasted malts and alcohol on the finish. Mouthfeel is a little thin for me but it has nice carbonation. Good beer. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting an IRS, but this one is pretty easy drinking.
