Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

12 oz bottle from ucusty - thanks David! Black as night with a dark brown head. Lightly burnt malt and coffee nose, a bit of raisin and a very mild whiskey note. Dark chocolate flavor, some coffee and earthy hop. Palate is just on the full side. Charred finish, mildly bitter coffee and dry bittersweet chocolate. Nice!

Courtesy beerlando. This one poured a dark chocolate color with a thin tan head that left minimal lacing. It has a nice sweet aroma of dark chocolate, raisins, some dark fruit, and some roasty smells. The flavor is dominated by the dark malts and chocolate with hints of roasted coffee and fruits in the background. The mouthfeel is full and creamy and easy drinking with a full chocolaty finish. It was not as roasty as some imperial stouts, but still really nice.

This bottled brew from JSquire at a rating party poured a head of finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation dark black colored body. The aroma was roasted malt toasted malt and dark malt. The semi-thick crisp and clean mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops roasted malt and dark malt. A wonderful best in class brew.

All the IS prerequisites with a little more vanilla than I expected. Great head and lace. Much better than many of the the ISs I have of late. Too bad I can’t find more of this.

12 oz bottle thanks to lb4lb. Pours a dark brown black with a brown head and monster lacing (lochness?) Smoky nose that disipates into ashy grain and lots of chocolate. Creamy chocolate flavors. Rich and malty. Dark and milk chocolate, anise, roasty and a more of the ashyness in the finish. Creamy and smooth body. Good beer but the ashyness detracted from its otherwise solid points..

Black pour, small brown head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate and licorice. Flavor is much the same roastiness up front with dark chocolate and some mollasses sweetness with licorice in the finish. Coffee as it warms and a little more caramel and mollasses with the licorice staying also. Even more fruity esters as it warms taking this more on the sweeter side with coffee staying strong. Good beer but really hs a lingering sweetness.

BIG thanks to lb4lb for just sending this beer to me without asking for anything. Poured an inky black color with a creamy, deep tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, some roastiness, a bit of coffee and a hint of smoke. Sweet chocolate and some roastiness on the entry, leads into a coffee flavor and finishes with some smokiness om the finish. Nice and creamy. Good stuff, and thanks again to Deniz for sending me this bottle.
