Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aorma is sweet malty with medium notes of roasted malt, while the flavor is sweet with very strong notes of roasted malt, as well as medium notes of sweet soy sauce. Thanks yespr for sharing.

(thx 2 thebeercellar) Black oily color with dark brown head. Aged steak and wet cellar and raisen smell. Intensely woody start, smoked, roasty flavor. Notes of coffee, mild milky chocolate, raisen, and roasted malt. Full feel, creamy smooth, delicious. Malty roasted/burned sweet taste finish. Very nice! Great example of what a IS should be! I wish i could taste the other reserves!

Thanks to my Secret Santa for this one! It doesn’t take long before you realize there’s an Imperial Stout in your glass. Black and dark with a mocha tan head. Sweet coffee, chocolate and roast malt aroma. Vanilla joins the aromas at the flavor area, coming out of nowhere. Full bodied, smooth. I’d drink another.

Bottle. [Great two day tasting session @ Papsoe] Lovely colored light brown creamy head that mostly lasted. Pitch black color. Fair display of lacework. Aroma of bread, berries, dried fruit, chocolate, hint of alcohol, quit vinous, roasted malt. Over the palate some bitter coffee, dark chocolate, English liquorish. Very full bodied with an average carbonation and thick texture. Moderated to heavy sweet with good counter bitter flavor. Mix of dark chocolate and bitter liquorish lingering finish.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of yespr/MaltOMeal. Completely black and opaque with a creamy, light brown head. Fat aroma of burned malt, raisins and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with very burned malt accents in combination with dried fruits. Distinctly malt bitter finish. 120108
