Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

12 fl oz bottle, from trade with ygtbsm94. Pours dark brown to black with a dense light chocolate head. Smooth chocolate malty aroma. Flavour is very smooth chocolate malty. Solid chocolate bitterness yet very smooth as well. Ends with a nice mix of bitterness and chocolate lingering into the far finish.

Thanks Geuzedude. This is a very tasty classy RIS. Above average mouthfeel, though not very thick, and I think that matched the taste of chocolate and spices. Very drinkable!Coffee secondary, which I appreciated. Complex malt, yet bittersweet throughout. Minimal head on black.

Bottle shared by emacgee. Thanks Ethan! Pours a dark brown with a pretty nice light brown head. Nose is dark fruit, hops, bakers chocolate. Flavor is not particularly notable, with more bitter chocolate flavors and some malty spiciness.

Thanks again to Springslicker for sharing this one as well. A deep blackened red pour with a dark tan head. Aroma of burnt chocolate with hints of abv. Hard bitter dark chocolate flavor with a rich sweetness and no abv present. Smooth creamy and rich. Carbonation is excellent. Palate was a hint thinish but just a hint. A very fine offering.

Bottle. Thanks Santa. Shared with Soda. Pours thick dark black with lasting tan head. Lots of coffee, roastiness, & dark chocolate. Cocoa, medium to ful mouthfeel & chocolate lingers in the back of your palate for a while. Very nice beer.

Looks like all the other impy stouts. Smells better than most; roasty malt, chocolate, anise, some caramel, intense and rich, well balanced aroma, some berry fruitiness. Taste brings a bitter coffee not present in the smell, chocolate and some peppery spice. The taste just doesn’t come together for me as well as the aroma did. Body is a little lacking compared to other examples of the style and alcohol shows a little. Pretty nice but doesn’t stand out in the very crowded field of impy stouts.

This imperial stout pours a dark black color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is ashy, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are fruity and sweet, chocolate, caramel and ashy. The hops are earthy and floral. Kind of sweet, and a touch thin for an imperial stout. Interesting. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle. I was lucky enough to find 2 six-packs of this glorious creation. Flavors and aromas of coffee and chocolate can be found in this jet black brew with a khaki-colored head. Beware: this beer induces the slippery slope effect. One of these will turn a "I’m only gonna have a beer or two" night into a "where is the whiskey because we’re out of beer" evening.
