Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

The color was a deep brown/black. The head was medium/dark tan, thin, and fizzy. The aroma was coffee, roasty, sweet malt, chocoalte, and alcohol. The flavor was very roasty, coffee malt, charred, sweet malt, and alcohol. The palate was smooth and thick-bodied. The finish was warm.

Thanks lb4lb. Pours a really nice black brew with a thin creamy brown head. The nose is sweet, fruity, a light grassy smell, alcohol. The flavor is rich, creamy, alcohol, roasty, bitter coffee, bakers chocolate, black cherries, burnt toast, caramel, a bit waxy and the hops do shine a bit. Nice smooth palate. A good drinkable RIS. Tried this with a little more age on it and found that it had decreased greatly in quality.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Thanks buddy!!! Pours deep blackness with bueatiful rootbeer float like creamy head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is big with fudgey chocolatiness, brown sugar and molasses covered wheat bread. Then I get dark fruity esters like figs, prunes and raisins. For the flavor I get chocolate laced with molasses. Yum. This is rich and delicious. Toward the finish the experience wraps up with thick and chewy roasted malts, burnt malts, raisins, figs, cherries, vanilla and some sense of alcohol. Wow, double YUM.

Bottle…O-Town Throwdown Part Tres... This beer rocks!… Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, light brown head. Good retention. Luxurious aroma of chocolate and Madagascar vanilla beans with a nice touch of buttery diacetyl and faint raspberry. Nice flavor, but doesn’t live up to the hype created by the nose. Medium to heavy hop, tannin and alcohol bitterness with lots of chocolate, burnt espresso, wood and a whisper of blueberry. Also, a rumor of oxidation with a faint, tangy, cardboard taste. Full-bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes burnt, bitter and a tad woodsy. Kudos to Beerlando for providing the bottle!

Courtesy beerlando. Bottle. Pours big and black with a thick tan head. Aroma is molasses and chcolate malt. Very thick mouthfeel. Roasted barley, molasses, chocolate malt taste. Finishes like a dry stout, nice and clean. Very good.

Near black color with a foamy tan head. The head look like dark seafoam, interesting look. Small rings of lace. Fairly sweet with dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malt dark cherries and hints of vanilla. Full, lightly oily feel. Rich flavors with light coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate and caramel. Slightly warming, but it’s not detected in the flavors. Finish and linger are rather dry with a touch of acidity, much akin to black malt or espresso. Linger really only has a touch of charcoal and dry cocoa.

12 ounce bottle shared by BBB63
Pours opaque dark brown with a fizzy brown head.
Sweet chocolate covered raisin aroma with a bit of a twang to it.
Bitter chocolate flavors with some raisins and coffee. That funny twang is still three.
Medium body. High carbonation. Dry finish.
Just sort of okay.
