Bourbon aroma. Beige head. Black smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a bitter and warming malt finish. Sonicdescent (379), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Pours a very dark liquid with a very thin layer of mocha head/crown.
Smells fantastic, toffee, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate, cream, maybe a little vanilla.
Taste at first was solid, but unremarkable, but this leaves such a great chocolate and creamy aftertaste. Milky up front. Extremely good.
Mouth is medium to heavy in body, low to med in carbonation.
I hope to get another chance to try this great brew. Rciesla (3750), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Sweet malty but a hint grainy and slick, some lighter salty chocolate and grainy dried fruits. Not one of the better stouts out there. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

I can’t remember the way in which this got to my cellar but I am glad to have a second bottle. While it is starting to go downhill I think it still has a few more months of life left in it. A solid all-around imperial stout this one is an example of how a regional brewery can do big beers right.
Aroma / Appearance - The fuzzy tan head and fluid black body intermingle with sheets of tinted lacing. Flourless chocolate torte dominates the headspace but there is also a hint of raspberry infused black coffee. Including the oatmeal cookies the overall experience is not unlike that of a fully stocked dessert tray.
Flavor / Palate - A little thin bodied it nonetheless packs quite a flavor punch. Cold black coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and some malt swirl around the senses. Perhaps a bit heavy on cocoa it could be a bit more balanced. Regardless it has enough complexity to deserve spending some time reflecting on its strengths. This is an ideal after dinner treat. pantanap (1363), Chicago, Illinois, USA
