Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Sample provided by mj. Black body with a medium sized, creamy tan head. The nose is bakers chocolate, molasses, burnt sugars and green apple. The flavor is moderately sweet with chocolate, green apple, molasses and prunes. Full body is sticky with light carbonation and a warm finish.

Thin brown head that,s short lived. Lacing is stringy and spotty. Blackcolored brew with some brown edging. Aromas are soft ,chocolate, light roast, malted milk, dried fruit and berries. Body is med/full, a bit sticky on the palate, nicely oily and creamy. Gentle roast flavors, milk chocolate, lightly bittersweet, berries with some vinous notes as well. Finish is lightly wet, chocolatey and roasty. Props to fly for gettin me a couple bottles. Thanks Alan!

Courtesy Beerlando. Poured a severe dark brown color with very little head. A ton of chocolate and cocoa on the aroma, some alcohol also. Taste is roasty and there’s good bit of heat present. A nice hop flourish comes out in the finish. This will be nice with some time on it.

Pours a melted dark chocolate color with a minimal tan head. Thick legs foreshadow its substantial body. Minimal spotty lacing noted. The aroma shows dark chocolate, stewed figs, raisons and heavy cream. It smells roasty, yet sweet at the same time. The flavor is again very chocolaty, this time accompanied by mocha, cream, raisons, and some earthy hops. Finishes where it starts, with roasted coffee and chocolate. Similar in form and function to the Big Eddy IS, but not as massively fruity or complex. Mouthfeel is full and silky. Awesome beer. Definitely want to age a couple for later.

Bottle courtesy of lb4lb. Thanks! Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt, raisins, some chocolate. Tastes of chocolate, some bitter touches, lots of dark fruit, a little lactic. Alcohol is well hidden ad doesn’t show up until the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is bitter with a nice balance of sweet chocolate. Overall a pretty solid brew.

Courtesy beerlando. Thanks Bryan!! Pours oily pitch black, with not much of a head. Smells of musty dark malts, and some roasty nuts. Some chocolate in there as well. Very sweet dark chocolate really dominates with a noticeable dark fruit presence. The finish is very oily, with abig roasty mouthfeel. Very good imperial stout, maybe just a touch too sweet, but still solid as hell.

Almost black, thin head, little lacing. Aroma has pronounced alcohol, coffee, chocolate. Taste of bitter coffee and burnt wood chips...perhaps a little too bitter. Very thick and chewy. Very nice but could use more sweetness.
