Commercial Description:
This Divine Reserve was inspired by the winning entry of the 2007 Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition, brewed by Mike Heniff, a highly decorated local Houston homebrewer. Russian Imperial Stouts are very big and very black and this one is no exception. DR5 has a rich malty body full of coffee and chocolate flavors and a spiciness derived from the combination hops and high alcohol. It was brewed with a variety of malts including 2 row pale, crystal, chocolate and roasted barley. It was hopped with Nugget, Willamette and Centennial. We used an American ale yeast to ferment it. It is unfiltered. Enjoy at 45°F or warmer with some dark chocolate or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Thanks Beerlando. Poured a deep brown, almost black. Aroma is espresso, cocoa, some creaminess. Flavor is slightly sour, not bad, but full roast coffee comes through.

Bottle courtesy of franksnbeans. Thanks Jacob. Dark brown or black pour, creamy mocha head that has tremendous lasting power. Also leaves excellent lacing behind. Nose is one of the best I’ve ever smelled on a beer - smells like a warm fudge brownie. Also get some chalkiness in there, along with other assorted chocolate notes and some roast as well. Tons of malt in the aroma as well. Taste is a little step down, but still good. It’s a bit tame compared to the aroma, but still hits on a lot of the promised notes, including that awesome fudge brownie sensation. Medium bodied, creamy, round palate. Slightly sticky on the tongue. Finish is very lengthy, milk and dark chocolate, fudge and malts. Drinks extremely easy for a 10% Imperial Stout. No sense of the alcohol in either the aroma or flavor profile. In the end, if the flavor had stood out a bit more, this would be a top 10 beer for me, personally. As it stands it’s just really, really good and something I wish I had easy access to.

Pours a black, blood red with a slight tan head. Aroma is woody bourbon and fruity dark malt and ester with chocolate. Taste is coffee and fruity ester with some burnt flavors, and chocolate sweet and sourness. Finish is sweet coffee and lingers as so... Palate is creamy, sweet and slightly sour with a touch of alcohol and dense. Complex in the taste as in the aroma, but very nice coffee taste. Very solid.

12-oz. Thanks, Boboski! Black. Thick, surging, moussy dark tan and orange head. Super sharp sour milk nose that kind of knocks me back a bit before I even really get rolling with drinking the beer. Thick, chalky body. Chocolate, roast, and coffee on the mid-palate. Astringent, chalky finish.

Bottle shared by beastiefan2k: Pitch black pour with a deep brown, rising deep brown head. Rich dark chocolate aroma, along with molasses, burnt toast. Extremely rich body. Tons of tarry roast, salty licorice, molasses, woody dark chocolate and tons of resiny bitterness and a mild smokey touch as well. Exceptional Imperial Stout!

Bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pitch black with a thick tan head. Big intense aroma, dark bitter chocolate. Massive roasty slightly salty aroma as well. A touch of pine. Malty/molassesy flavour, caramel and vanilla. Impressively rich body. Light plummy/raisin sweetness. Loads of toasty/roasty bitterness on the back. Tarry and piny.

Bottle, thanks to beastiefan2k. Darker brown color. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt / coffee, smoke / meaty malt. The flavor is very similar to the aroma; rich and dense. Very good.
